Ten Secondary Academy for
Success graduating seniors were among 83 scholarship
recipients honored May 25 at the 26th
annual recognition breakfast sponsored by the Woodinville
and Northshore Rotary clubs, Kiwanis Club of Northshore
and the Northshore Scholarship Foundation. Pictured during
ceremonies held at the Northshore Senior Center were, top
row from left: Woodinville Rotarian Steve Dolan, recipient
Jeffery Schmidt, SAS counselor Kjerstin Lee, graduates
Heidi Schauble, Courtney Roberts and Matt Hunter. Middle,
from left, Maddie Williams, Amanda Walters, Joshua
Alexander. Front, from left, Amanda Gonzales, Samuel
Armatage and Dalton Wall. Recipients not pictured,
Veronica Stevens, Nick Messner and Israel Perez. It was a
record number of SAS graduates to receive grants through

and Northshore Rotary clubs, Kiwanis Club of Northshore
and the Northshore Scholarship Foundation. Pictured during

awarded scholarships to seniors Stringer, Gilbert-Record,
Theisen and Hughes. Memorial scholarships were presented
in memory of Peg Phillips (Campbell), math teacher Cook
(Dietrich), student Shawn Gardner (Lyons), and the Arvid
K. Pride family of Woodinville (Guillen). A total of
$160,900 in scholarships was announced.

Rotary
Scholarships at Cascadia C.C.
Linda Hendrickson
was pleased to introduce recipients of $2,000 scholarships
to (left to right) Michael Merritt, Kate Aarden and Tyler
Licata. Woodinville Rotary sponsored grants for Merritt
and Licata as well as scholarship renewals for Shelly
Ewell, Mea Pen and Olive Oliveros. Kate's scholarship in
global awareness was funded by the Foundation account held
by Northshore Rotary Club. Tyler and Mike are enrolled in
the college's environmental technology and sustainable
practices program. |

Don Fitz Jr. The Winthrop couple was among 12 couples
enjoying the wine and dining extravaganza staged on Earth
Day April 22 at the Gracean estate of Cherry and Terry
Jarvis. A total of 77 individuals have become charter
members of the Greater Grace Wine Appreciation Society
(GGWAS).

Appreciator DeSmet
congratulations chef Yary Rumbaut upon five-course dinner
and presents her with official GGWAS medallion plus
charter membership. Above right, great enthusiasticator
John Hughes acknowledges the first ever GGWAS "Award of
Appreciatory Significance" to guest Gretchen Garth in her
"dedicated, determined and diligent" drive in the
development of 21 Acres for sustainable agriculture and
clean energy.
Washington State University
graduate student Catherine Hinken Jones appeared pleased
to get the news that her $3,000 enology-viticulture
scholarship has been renewed for her final year of her
work toward a masters degree. She is studying at the WSU
extension service facility in Prosser. Grace Town
Vineyards chief Viticulturalist G. Max Zellweger made the
announcement. The Earth Day dinner and other GGWAS "fun"
raising projects fund the WSU scholarship as well as one
in the enology and viticulture program at Walla Walla
Community College.

Grand Exalted Appreciator
DeSmet unfurled the official uniform for the new GGWAS
Kazoo Marching Band. The GEA conducted a vigorous
recruiting effort at the Earth Day Dinner. Note head-dress
of the new, official GGWAS mascot, the Northwest Merlot, a
native bird whose near extinction has GGWASers concerned,
DeSmet announced.
