 Meeting of January 3

Fashionably dressed in his royal purple sweater, President J.B. Hughes called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m.

John Creason led the flag salute and invocation.

Chris Boland led the song of the day, which was entitled “Auld Lang Syne.”  This expression can be translated as “Old Long Ago” or “For The Sake of Old Times.”

Our program was very interesting.  It involved the status of the Maltby Food Bank.  Fran Walster and her colleague, Graham, discussed the growth of the Maltby Food Bank in terms of the number of people that it served.  Five (5) years ago, the food bank served 75 families per week.  Now it serves 170 families per week.  For the year 2011, the food bank helped 20,890 people which represented 6,376 households.

Tim Russell talked about plans for the building expansion project.  Contractors for the project will be member Charlie Russell’s company, and member Tim House’s company.  Once completed, the building expansion project will provide much more room for the food bank.  The food bank is located on 87th Avenue Southeast next to the ice creamery in Maltby.  It is open from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 9:00 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Our exchange student, Pauline, gave a report on what she would like to see in her remaining time here in the Puget Sound area.  She would like to see the Seattle Art Museum, the Aquarium, Orcas in the San Juan Islands, visit Vancouver, Canada, and also Portland, Oregon.

Marv Workman got his thirty (30) year Rotary pin.

There was a request for ideas for new programs.

Norm Noble presented the Woodinville Rotary Charitable Foundation with a $70 check derived from proceeds from his new novel.

Jay Fiske indicated that he had made a resolution to reach out to new or reforming Rotary Clubs, including the Redmond Rousers.

Our Rotary Club will have a 25th Anniversary Dinner at Crystal Lake Lodge on January 31, 2012.  More details will follow.

Chris Boland talked about his year, and we sang “Happy Birthday” to him.  The singing appeared to be quite melodic.

Sergeant at Arms, Jay Fiske, accumulated a vast storehouse of money from his excellent capabilities at fining members.

Raffle.  Fran Walster took a chance at the white marble and drew a black one instead.

The program for next week will be Sasha Anderson, Cultural Ambassador for Rotary.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
