 Meeting of Sept. 13

The podium looked like one fitted for a king, it was so huge that the speakers were barely seen oh but we could hear them loud and clear thanks to the new state-of-the-art sound system, I wonder if it became necessary as the membership began losing their ability to hear or was it because someone figured out that before we only heard what we wanted to hear, sad though is for those who used to nap during the presentations.

Tim House led us in the Flag Salute and prayer followed by Chris Crimson the Song Butcher’s appropriate selection for the day of God Bless America:

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

Guest President Eric Greenwood who by the way has not served in that capacity in Rotaryville but did at University Sunrise got the ball rolling sort to speak by asking to introduce guests and visiting Rotarians of which there were none, Norm Noble is no longer considered “visiting”, he did however shared his passion for community service, Woodinville Rotary and briefly mentioned something about his drinking Rotarian pals.

The French lesson of the week by Pauline was much palatable than last week’s, this time we had to learn “Good Morning” – “Buenos Dias” and “Good Night” – “Buenas Noches”  simple enough at least for me. Pauline talked about her week and seems she is having a great time here in the USA.

                   No Badge?

Daryl Eckland gave a classification talk that was most interesting, in his dreams he spent his growing years traveling throughout the world however in reality he grew up in Seattle, he left home at the age of 17 looking for fame and fortune and left to go fishing in Alaska where he found neither. He did however enrolled in at the U where he obtained a degree in dentistry, married Stacie the love of his life, and together had three wonderful boys that too went on to become dentists, Keagan and Colby graduated from the U and Cale from the University of Michigan.

Norm Noble our permanent visiting Rotarian gave us an account of his and his wife’s health challenges they have had this year and thanked everyone in the club for their support and prayers during these difficult times. All of us wish Norm and his wife a speedy recovery and will continue to have them in our thoughts and prayers.

120 to 300 and 30 to 150HELP WANTED!Let’s Make it HappenWe can get it done!

Eric took to the podium again to give us an account of where we stand with respect to the upcoming auction, of the 300 guests we would like to have we have 120 registered and of the $150,000 in auction items that we need we only have $30,000 - with only 24 days to go. Eric urged us to step up the pace and make sure each one of us does her or his part to make it happen.

Rorry Dunbar described some of the wonderful items we already have such as a week in the Cayman Islands with air travel! Chris Boland’s personally guided tour of some of the best Woodinville wineries for forty eight guests – wow!, among others however we still need more items for the live auction – time to get moving and go get them!

Greg gave us a rundown of how the activities will take place during the day and night of the event, the menu looks yummy – I predict heavy bidding for the desserts. Greg’s ability to produce a presentation in all kinds of different digital formats is incredible, no wonder he was elected to the highest office in the club.

Steve Dolan and soon to be president Greg Riggs (does this mean that Hugo is now a lame-duck president? - Never!)  had no problem recruiting volunteers for the many different activities leading to and presiding from the grand event, in other words people to help with the setup and cleanup activities.

In summary: signup your guests, fill a table or two, procure cool and exciting items for the live auction, and get your credit cards ready.

Tim House asked for six volunteers to help this Saturday with the last stretch of pressure washing at the park, if you are planning to attend be sure to bring a long water hose from home.

It's Official. Erv has his past president's badge

Ex-president Bronco the Shy Man was blown away by the generosity of the membership for the donations received in support of Wounded Warriors, Gordy Green passed the hat around and the end result was nearly $300 for the cause – wow!

Speaking of the Ex-president Bronco the Shy Man he was given an award the meeting by President Hugo for something he did at some point it the past, isn’t he wonderful?.

The end!
