Salient Points as reported by R.J. Clark

 Tuesday Morn

August 9th

Prezident John Hughes vacationing on Crane Island.  Former Prez Jay Soloff filling in as this week’s Guest Prez.

Guests: Puckett, Carter

    Police Chief Sydney Jackson

    Lou Puckett, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Tony Ive, son of John Ive

   Michael Carter, Bellevue Breakfast.

Soloff shared his Rotary History with audience; Max Zellweger was given credit for bringing Jay to Woodinville Rotary.

Rorry gave Procurement Report.  Alex Hopkins is all-star in terms of procurement.  We currently have $35,000 worth of donated items; need $150/$157,000.  We are on track but there is no time to waste.

Brief review by Eric Greenwood; website is going well, we have a new auctioneer, theme is Oktoberfest, we need BIS, reminded us of our purpose which is caring about the youth in our community.

Erv DeSmet is leading by example; already has a table of 10 people.

Riggs reviewed menu:  Hunter Steak, Halibut and Portabella Mushroom.

Guest Prez received round of applause.

Brief exchange of club banner between Woodinville and Puerto Vallarta.  Introduction of some of the PV projects; scholarship program, water purification.  44 members – mostly Spanish (4 gringos).

Reminder of Crab Feast at Eckland estate on 8/20 @ 2:00.  Be sure to RSVP with number and with food to bring.

Discussion from Tim House regarding Rotary Park stewardship project; is looking fabulous but may consider a different day for the work.  About ¼ finished.

Duffield:  Exchange student (French) arrives on 8/19.  Will be able to meet her at the crab feed.  Still need host family for latter part of the year.

August 16th, Alex Hopkins will present the program regarding the work we did for Acres of Diamonds in securing a $5000 matching grant.

Erv DeSmet informed all about the Soldier Ride on September 17th.  25 mile Bike ride which is a fundraiser for wounded soldiers.  Would like to see our support.  He served in Viet Nam and it is a meaningful and emotional purpose.

Sgt at Harms fined Max Zellweger (or was it a fine waiver) for sleeping with his Rotary pin on.  Tim House received a waiver because he grew an arm back.  Guest from PV received waiver that he can use to pay for his baggage on the way back.  Jorge will deliver an auto to PV.  Alex Hopkins gave $100 for Paul Harris purpose in recognition of his promotion to West Coast area business manager.  Jay Soloff gave happy dollar as his Roadster (thanks to Jorge) has 110,000.
