We'll find out at our August 2 meeting!

Mike explains to Quinn Visse about this new Rotary
idea called New Generations? Nah! Quinn came with
his dad to learn all about Lacrosse!

Guest President Gary Whitsell and assistant Special Asst. to the President Gayle Sauve struggled to assist John Creason in search of a white marble worth all of $128.

In honor of Max the Marble man:
To give other Rotarians a chance for the "white" marble, the auction committee has introduced the following:

For each procured auction item turned in at all future meetings through October 4, the member bringing in either a silent or live auction item will receive a ticket or tickets for the marble box drawing!

Erv's Rotary Report for July 19, 2011

We are fortunate to have the recollections of
immediate Past President Erv DeSmet, Jr....herewith

The meeting was called to order by President John Hughes.  He immediately summoned the guest President for the day, namely Gary Whitsell.  Gary Whitsell then summoned Evan McAllister to lead the flag salute and the invocation.

We had four (4) guests attending our meeting today.  Visiting Rotarians were Norm Noble and Rob Rose.  Guests were Nuno Romao and future Lacrosse player Quinn Visse.

Tim House conducted a wonderful program about the sport of Lacrosse.  He brought with him numerous equipment items, and talked about how technology has improved the equipment for Lacrosse players in many ways.  He mentioned that you have to be a “special person” to be a goalie in this sport because the little Lacrosse ball is very hard and it comes at the goalie at excessive speeds throughout the game.

Roger Martindill gave a classification talk in which he summarized his early years and where he grew up.  He was an Indiana boy and spent his summers in Wooster, Ohio on his grandparents farm.

He gave us his work experience and then talked about his family.

Roger related his Rotary history to us in which he indicated he joined Rotary in 1985 and then listed all of his various positions within Rotary.  He was Rotarian of the Year in 2004.

Charity Event.  We got two new items for the auction at today’s meeting.

Rotary Community Park Report.  Susan Webster summarized the ongoing efforts to be good stewards of our Rotary Community Park.  She urged as many of us as possible to attend the upcoming Monday Hose-A-Thon.  Tom Quigley will be there and will be performing various acts of stewardship wizardry.

Raffle.  Tim House wisely chose the wine.  John Creason missed the marble.

Birthday Reports.  Kathy Kill, Terry Jarvis and Joe Truglio were honored for being birthday people in the recent past. Actually Terry and Joe turned a year older in front of our very eyes that day!

July 26 Picnic.  Everybody bring a dessert to the July 26 picnic.  Start time is 6:00 p.m.  Check your e-mails for location.

The meeting was adjourned on or about 8:38 a.m.

                                                           RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED

Baumler kids win big at Bite of Seattle

Tana Baumler was very happy to part with Happy Dollars when reporting that daughters Keesha and Tessa Baumler and spouses captured first place in two categories entered by the Maltby Cafe.  "Best Dessert" and "Health Bite" for a perfect "10" cookie with 10 grams each of protein and fiber.

Rotary Community Park Board Game - Susan Webster

The object of the game is for Rotarians to move the pressure washer along by 50 and 100 foot hose lengths using the wand as the game piece.  This Monday's night game will feature two teams with 3-4 Rotarians per team.  Play consists of one team player using the wand while team members appear to 'man the hoses' but what actually takes place is good conversation. Team captains this Monday will be Gordy Green and Susan Webster  Team members need only bring their favorite hose in either 50' or 100' lengths.  Team Green will meet and begin from the North Shelter Entrance, Team Webster from the Skate Park, dude!

Pressure washers will start at 6:00 and run 'till the tank is dry or team members can no longer handle their wands.  Substitutes from the boardwalk can enter into the game at the request of any team member,  so show up  late, even without your hose!

Meeting Duties Consolidated

The Club Services committee has consolidated some of the duties members are asked to handle for the morning meetings at the Grange. Please note that the flag salute and invocation are now a single assignment and the member handling the front desk is asked to provide the weekly raffle prize. The Guest Prez has been added. Our exchange student from France is due later this summer and members will be asked to include her in their plans beginning the week of Labor Day.

Our Community Service Partner
since 1990

Banner Bank has participated with Woodinville Rotary Club since 1990 in the development and support
of the many community and education projects which are and have been the focal point
of our club's annual October charity fund-raising event.

  Woodinville Rotary Club's
 Charitable Giving Focus

Rotarians of Woodinville believe that providing a pathway for Woodinville's youth to obtain an education represents our opportunity to live "Service Above Self".

The club provides direct funding to programs from grade  school through college...new Operation Warm coats for young children in need, brand new dictionaries for every third grader, summer reading camps at Kokanee and Woodmoor elementary schools, music and academic opportunities at the Secondary Academy for Success (SAS), a pilot project at Woodinville High School for peer-to-peer math tutoring, and renewable scholarships for Woodinville High School and SAS graduates where it will "make the difference" between affording and attending college.
