Rotary Reporter - Jorge Gonzalez

Everything pointed to a great meeting, first because it was one of the first sunny mornings in a very long time and then because it was our new president’s first meeting. The expectations were high, during his campaign now President Erv promised a whole bunch of stuff, now we will see if can deliver on his promises; my view is that he will but then of course I am bias since I campaigned hard on his behalf in hopes of getting a job in his administration which I now have, more on this later.

At the (wimpy) sound of the bell all of us ran to the food table as usual but to our surprise when we went to sit down there were no tablecloths! I know for sure that President Erv had nothing to do with it because I have a transcript of every campaign speech and he never talked about saving money to make up for loss membership, he in fact promised to increase it and I am sure that no new prospective member would have been impressed by having to eat in a table with no table cloth.

Linda Hendrickson led us in the Flag Salute and President Erv conducted the Rotary Choir with instruments and all to “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” that with some practice in time we may be able deliver an acceptable version of it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinkle_Twinkle_Little_Star).

After the introduction of our guest, Assistant District Governor Terry Pickering (at left), President Erv announced that next week’s meeting will be held at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center -- address and directions are posted on the Newsletter home page.

Larry Duffield is in serious need to find a host family for our exchange student scheduled to arrive from Switzerland towards the end of August and to this effect he made a compelling request for a family in Woodinville to take this young man for the first three months of his stay. Privately Larry told me that in case no one volunteers he is prepared to drop the x-student off at the front door of the house of one of our members living in Woodinville, ring the doorbell and take off running, the same way people dispose of kittens.

President Erv gave us a preview of the upcoming programs that promise to be exciting and informative with a good mix of topics of interest to all of us, check the weekly and sometimes not so often Weekly Newsletter for details.

Eric Greenwood gave us an update of our upcoming auction which can be summarized by saying that we need procurement and rears to fill the seats, other than that “all is great”.

John Abbott informed us that the program of July 20 will be about a project for a bread oven in Fiji.

The Mayor of Grace declared that he “will take back Woodinville” and that once he does his first order of business will be to change the date of the parade.

Jay Fiske suggested that in order to bring some laughter to the meetings a member will be selected “at random” to tell a joke or funny story. Larry Duffield was prompt to volunteer the first story that he claimed was very funny. Evan suggested a $5.00 waiver in lieu of a joke which he paid.

Grace Viticulturalist Max Zellweger reported that the weeds at the Grace Town Vineyards Rotarian Block at the Molbak’s Plant Farm are all gone thanks to Rotary friend Tom Quigley and his group of hard working people. Linda Hendrickson suggested that to recognize this good deed we present Tom a bottle of Cuervo Gold.

Julian Denes was recognized with a SO for his accomplishment, he participated in an Ironman in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho finishing in 36th place out of 2000 and some participants, he was in 800th place after the swim, 2nd place after the bike ride.
