  1. News from Woodinville Rotary Club

Woodinville Rotary Club invites the public to join Rotarians on April 22 at Molbak’s in Woodinville in celebration of the club’s fourth annual Earth Day wine tasting.

The festivities will be held in the event center at Molbak’s from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and features handcrafted wines from five of Woodinville’s leading wineries. The cost is $25 per person and proceeds support Rotary’s charitable giving focus on education, literacy and scholarships in environmental studies. Registration information can be found at www.molbaks.com/events.html.

Featured wineries will include DeLille Cellars, Castillo de Feliciana, Brian Carter Cellars, Elsom Cellars and Dusted Valley. Each attendee will receive a commemorative wine glass from the Greater Grace Wine Appreciation Society.

Landau’s Catering will demonstrate the preparation and serving of fresh herb Marscarpone hors d’oeuvres. Informal demonstrations on growing herbs and creating spring container designs from a Master Gardner are also scheduled.

“What better location than Molbak’s to feature our appreciation for Mother Earth’s bounty,” said club president Erv DeSmet. “And, we welcome members of the community with an interest in learning more about Rotary’s charitable giving and our work in the community and in support of international projects like the global eradication of polio. Since our charter nearly 25 years ago, Woodinville Rotary has given back more than $2 million to our community.”

A limited number of registrations are available. For additional information, (425) 483-5000.

Erv's Presidential Recap

Posted by Our Leader for His Subjects

NAMI WALK May 14.  This will be a big deal, as we all heard this morning. Lots of excitement and great environment for a very very worthy cause.  It looks like we are going to have a fairly massive presence there.  GOOD FOR US.  This is great.

More information will be provided as it becomes available regarding George Phillips and “Operation Mimosa.”

Pinto Beans Our Calling!

This past Saturday a stalwart group of Rotarians and guests joined a contingent from Puget Sound Energy and transferred pinto beans which were originally located in one ton super bags into smaller meal sized bags.  Gaylen “Hercules” Sauve was in charge of shoveling, and he personally and single handedly shoveled two tons of pinto beans out of those monster sacks.

The others who were there besides Hercules Sauve were John Abbott, Tana Baumler, Roger Stark, Wayne Parris and guest, Kathy Kill, her daughter and her son in law, George “Mr. Mimosa” Phillips, and me.

Anyway---what a crew!!!  We along with the group from Puget Sound Energy packed a total of 3 tons of pinto beans into meal sized bags which amounted to over 20,000 meals for hungry people.

Thanks to all who were there.  We all looked great in our hair nets.  I got plenty of pictures as proof. They will be revealed in due time.

Remember---no meeting tomorrow at the Grange.  No Tuesday meeting.

  Woodinville Rotary Club's
 Charitable Giving Focus

Rotarians of Woodinville believe that providing a pathway for Woodinville's youth to obtain an education represents our opportunity to live "Service Above Self".

The club provides direct funding to programs from grade  school through college...new Operation Warm coats for young children in need, brand new dictionaries for every third grader, summer reading camps at Kokanee and Woodmoor elementary schools, music and academic opportunities at the Secondary Academy for Success (SAS), a pilot project at Woodinville High School for peer-to-peer math tutoring, and renewable scholarships for Woodinville High School and SAS graduates where it will "make the difference" between affording and attending college.
