Another Woodinville Rotary Factoid

Thirty one of our members are Paul Harris Fellows and three are Benefactors...
and three more are very close to having given $1,000 in total to Rotary Foundation which qualifies the donor to become a Paul Harris Fellow.
Since our charter in 1987, Woodinville Rotarians who are sustaining members of Rotary International Foundation have donated a total of $146,268.

As a sustaining member of Rotary Foundation, Rotarians are asked to donate a minimum of $100 per year. Presently, 46 of our 53 Woodinville Rotarians are sustaining members.

Rotary Reporting for Feb. 22 meeting

Steffan Clements, Bellevue, WA

Relief Efforts Around the World

Steffan definitely had that pivotal moment in his life when he was called to action.  Twenty-five years in the mortgage banking industry during the worst financial crisis in recent years brought a new chapter to his life.  Feeling a desire to “be a part of it”, he joined others from his Antioch Bible Church to become involved in relief efforts around the world.  Steffan volunteered his time and efforts in Haiti to provide medical and dental relief to the Haitian population.  No easy thing putting together a portable dental office and transporting it to Haiti.  Just try that and find out how difficult it can be to work with the TSA.  After getting clearance to board the aircraft, Steffan and others on the team were on their way to Haiti to serve.

Imagine doing extractions, giving restorative care, providing fluoride, cleaning, oral hygiene and assistance to a poor population.  This is quite a feat for a small medical team from Seattle.  Easy though when you “feel called”, as Steffan and others doing mission trips well know.

Another wonderful example of Service Above Self.  Thank you Steffan.

Our meeting would not have been complete without our invocation from Charlie Russell.  Today’s thought:  If you want to go fast…go alone.  If you want to go far…go together.  That’s Rotary in a nutshell.

Thank you for this opportunity to serve as your Rotary Reporter.

Susan Webster

No other club than say it: Woodinville Rotary Club is the only club in District 5030 which stretches from Edmonds to Auburn that can boast having TWO assistant governors and a past assistant district governor among our members. In July, Chris Boland will enter his second year of a three-year stint and Alex Hopkins, top dog in Rotary Academy, will become an assistant district governor in the new Rotary year. Roger Martindill has served in the same capacity and also was the district secretary for a term.  Chris and Alex were in attendance at a weekend training seminar for presidents-elect. Their primary duty was to participate in a parade of flags of the 173 countries in which Rotary is active.

Auction-Charity Event Kickoff set for April Fool's Day: The club will not hold our traditional Tuesday meeting the last week of March. Instead, the club will gather the evening of April 1, a Friday, with a social event to kickoff work on the 21st Annual Charity Fundraising event scheduled this year for October 8. No meeting at the Grange on March 29!

Dictionaries in February will get a plug in the Reporter newspapers.

  Woodinville Rotary Club's
 Charitable Giving Focus

Rotarians of Woodinville believe that providing a pathway for Woodinville's youth to obtain an education represents our opportunity to live "Service Above Self".

The club provides direct funding to programs from grade  school through college...new Operation Warm coats for young children in need, brand new dictionaries for every third grader, summer reading camps at Kokanee and Woodmoor elementary schools, music and academic opportunities at the Secondary Academy for Success (SAS), a pilot project at Woodinville High School for peer-to-peer math tutoring, and renewable scholarships for Woodinville High School and SAS graduates where it will "make the difference" between affording and attending college.
