Woodinville Rotary visits Secondary Academy for Success

New digs, new music program

Gracie Price and Travis Taylor performed a musical number they composed and now have recorded.

Snappy photos

Sydne Rice (at left) and Christina Gonzalez offered their rendition of "California Dreamin" and ninth grader Alex Minton joined instructor Pete McCausland in a Pink Floyd number with Alex providing the vocal for "Wish You Were Here".

Sydne auditioned at the
Moore Theater recently and
was selected to perform
in a youth production
later this spring.

A benefit for the MAY Foundation is scheduled May 19 at the Triple Door in Seattle

The Miro Report

Having 40 Rotarians in their school Commons -- with a musical show to boot -- attracted SAS students as they arrived for morning classes. Here they took in the scene from the second level observation deck. Principal Holly Call told Rotarians that our Rotary support of the extracurricular programs at SAS has been "truly transforming for our school." The music programs, she said, starting with Blues in the Schools, then with the ongoing  Music Project with Bernadette Bascom, and now the new instrumental program sponsored by the MAY Foundation "have changed the culture and added confidence in our kids." Holly will retire at the end of the school year after 10 years at SAS.

Dictionaries for 3rd Graders

Gordy Green tells Kokanee third grade class they'll each receive an American Heritage illustrated dictionary of their very own to keep, to use at home, carry in their backpack and have at class.

Third graders were told about service clubs, why Woodinville Rotary supports reading, and then were encouraged to see if the word "rotary" might be found in their new dictionary.

Eric Greenwood asked if everyone had their dictionary.

Gordy with a word assist - and teacher reminds "don't forget to put your name in you dictionary!"
