Rotary Reporter - Larry Leonardson

  “Donna can put them down”

A good turnout of Rotarians along with guests Everett Rotarian Reid Hale, Jack Cornwall and Tom Quigley greeted Pres Al.

Andrea reported on the Woodinville high School girls basketball team which is highly rated.  You can follow her schedule on the Rotary web site and at WHS Girls Hoops.  Andrea’s wish list of activities is also posted on our Web site. (Next junior varsity game is Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Woodinville High School versus Issaquah. Tipoff at 5:45 p.m. They play Roosevelt at WHS at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29. Final home game Feb. 10 against Inglemoor at 5:45 p.m.

Reid Hale and Jack Cornwall

Reid Hale spoke briefly about the March 19 fund raising luncheon for the Northshore Performing Arts Center which has its home at Bothell high School.  The organization is devoted to bringing live performances to the Northshore area.  It is a volunteer organization and needs the help of community groups like Rotary to get the word out. Jack Cornwell, President of the NPAC Foundation, then spoke passionately about his dream of bringing art to the children of this area who will grow up not necessarily to perform but to enjoy and be knowledgeable about the arts and especially performance art.

Power Forward

Jack and Hale asked if we could help fill a table at the luncheon to be held at the Hollywood School house on March 19.  Mark your calendars if you would enjoy coming to support this organization and its goals.  A spate of hands immediately went up so we will have at least one table there but could have a second table with a few more volunteers. Incoming potentate Erv D. reminded us that the district conference will be held in Portland this year on May 14-16.  He says it will be fun with reduced hotel rates, great speakers and lots of women and booze.  Oops that’s the Bar convention.  There will be a pub crawl, however, a garden tour, and a trip to Powell’s bookstore and a motorbike tour.  Ah, there is the place to look for women.

   Professor Whitsell

Gary Whitsell regaled us with a life history lesson going backwards.  Gary has enjoyed his participation in Rotary for the last 12 years which included a turn at the presidency as well as enjoying many friends and fun days with fellow members.  Gary and Donna met in the back set of a VW and apparently have spent quite a bit of time there over the years.  They like beer and as Gary said, “Donna can put them down”.  And we thought her greatest skill was putting up with Gary.   He grew up on Queen Ann and spent several years matriculating at Dawg town. He started out as an oceanographer but switched to accounting where the numbers made more sense to him.  And just as nimbly, he moved to Woodinville when the family started to grow.  Very interesting guy (didn’t mention cigars once).

Joe Truglio, I-Lynnwood, reminded us that it is dictionary time again when we distribute dictionaries to all of the third graders in 8 local schools.  Joe was sitting in for Todd who is chairing this activity this year.  The dictionaries are here and hands again quickly volunteered to deliver them to the various schools.  Service above self! See Joe or Todd if you need to know where, when and with whom.

Joe also noted we will help Rotary First harvest on Saturday morning, February 13.  Sign up if you can help.

Bon Voyage to our Cruisin Rotarians who are forcing themselves to leave this weekend to go overseas to help raise a total of $7,400 for our club.   If you see them gloating thank. Larry D, Tana, Darryl, Gordy, Jorge, Fred, Joe, Roger M and the Duck

Al almost forgot the marble in his rush to tell a corny joke.  But Max took another shot and came up short.

 Respectfully submitted;

Larry Leonardson
