Prezident Dr. Al Marsh opened this morning’s meeting by welcoming our guests, Mrs. Elna Duffield, (better half of Larry Duffield), Mr. Ron Butler (guest of Chris Boland), and Mr. Gaylen Sauve, guest of the missing Greg Riggs.  We also hosted Mr. Dave Holmes from the Northshore Rotary Club.

Roger Martindill introduced our guest speaker, Ms. Elizabeth Case from the Puget Sound Business Journal.    Elizabeth is in charge of New Business Development for the Journal. She delivered a very quick, concise and lively page-by-page tour of the Business Journal.  She brought to our attention many features and benefits of the Journal which has 17,000 subscribers and 111,000 readers.  It is important to note that Cascadia Community College has an ad appearing on page 2A and Ken Kirkpatrick’s name appears on page 33 (he claims it’s a “different” Kirkpatrick).

  Speaker Case

Bill Schink noted that the Woodinville Rotary Club is within the Top Five of the District in terms of proceeds raised for Rotary First Harvest.  He encouraged us all to continue to donate, both personally and professionally, in an effort to maintain that standing, not to mention all the good it does for our community.  The basket was passed and Jorge offered complimentary car wash passes for those that placed something in the basket.  The car washes are available at a motor company in Bellevue.

Maltby Bill also reminded us that November 24th is “Show Your Colors” meeting and that there will be a Dawg basket and a Coug basket up for auction.  Wear your colors and bring your money!  Go Cougs.

Chris Boland reminded us to bring a bottle of wine (for the holiday dinner) prior to the event, scheduled for December 1st.  If you have not signed up for the dinner at Monte Villa Farmhouse, please do so and do not come to breakfast that morning . . .we will not be here.

Eric Greenwood reminded us of the fundraiser for The Music Project, through the SAS school, at Hollywood School House on Thursday, December 3rd.  More details to follow.

Elna Duffield, Stacie Eckland and Dottie Greenwood are all involved in the Children’s Hospital Christmas Tree display and raffle and encouraged all of us to purchase a chance to win one of the trees.  Tickets are $10; please see Elna for purchase.  Additionally, there is a dinner on the evening of December 2nd at the Fairmont-Olympic Hotel; $33 without wine, $55 with wine.  Dottie Greenwood does the decorating of the Georgian Room and it is exquisite; worth the price of admission alone . . .

At this point, Evan’s phone rang again

Sgt. at Harms announced that he is “happy today” so there would be no fines.  Good thing for Evan.  He (the Sgt.) gave fair warning that if all Rotarians have not met and signed Margie Coy’s “roster notebook” they will be fined next week.

Travel Dollars are as follows:

Evan McAllister                For a trip to and from Cancun

Gary Whitsell                  For a trip to and from Walla from which he came back “broke”, save for one lone dollar that
                                      he gave to the Sgt.

Al Marsh                           For a trip to and from San Diego

Becky Clark                      Who is flying Northwest to Pennsylvania so who knows if she’ll even get there, let alone back.

Tana Baumler                    For four wonderful days in Las Vegas which, by the way was very well earned after the most
successful Oktoberfest in the Café’s 22-year history.  Patrons came from as far away as Portland,
                                        Tacoma and even Maltby.

Bill Schink                        For a trip to Columbus, Ohio to see children and grandchildren for Thanksgiving.

And finally, Rorry Dunbar   For his annual medical mission trip to Peru.

One wonders if there is anyone left to go to the Maltby Café’, which was recently honored with the award for “Best Breakfast”!  Congratulations, Tana and Sandy and Crew!

There were no “Happy Sports Dollars” although Gordy Green did state that we might consider an offering of “Crappy Sports Dollars”.

Jay Fiske asked that all Armed Forces members stand in honor of Veteran’s Day – it was heartwarming and humbling to note all of those standing who have served our country.  Jay also announced that he has picked up his long-awaited Retired Army card from Ft. Lewis; he’s been waiting 41 years for this moment.

Eric Greenwood announced that his high school friend and comrade will finally be honored for having earned the Medal of Honor over 40 years ago.  He, and seven other UW graduates who have also received the Medal of Honor, will be recognized at a ceremony on Wednesday, November 11th at the library at the University of Washington.  The story will be carried on King 5 TV.

Dave Holmes thanked the Woodinville Rotary members for their partnership in the annual Santa Breakfast.

Cherry Tinker offered sad and happy dollars for Zack’s team losing their recent match but still remaining in the top 25 in the country.

In terms of the raffle, Jon Bylin was hoping he won the marble so he could buy diapers.  He’s in a world of hurt because he didn’t win.

Evan’s phone rang again.

Snappy snapped up the salsa.

Max won the umbrella and gave it to Becky because she lost hers . . .again!  Schink also won the umbrella.

And Gaylen won the Poo Poo Paper (only a veterinarian would bring that back from the San Diego Zoo).  Gaylen wasn’t sure he liked the idea of coming to Rotary and getting “crap”.  Gordy advised him that it’s “just beginning”.

On that note, the meeting was adjourned.
