Questions? 2008-09 |
It was a wonderful cool and wet summer morning and everyone was feeling back to normal. Chris started us off with “Red, Red Wine” which, unbeknownst to anyone, turns out to have words and a tune other than the chorus. However this eye opener led us to our speaker DUI Joe Breidenbach, a Burien attorney who specializes, not surprisingly, in DUI defense.
Joe gave us a little history on how the various “tests” of drunken
driving were created.
Having put Pres Al through the “walk a straight line turn and walk
back” test, we learned that the physical tests administered on the
road may not be a valid test of sobriety.
(No one really checked to see if Al had been having any red,
red wine this morning before the meeting.
Who knows?)
Joe’s advice:
don’t take the physical tests if asked to do so some evening by a
uniformed officer. But
agree to take the breathalyzer since a) the penalties for refusing
the BA test include loss of your license for a year, and b) the
courts are not allowing the results of the breathalyzer tests
admitted into evidence for the time being.
If all else fails call Joe (206-246-3333).
Our new foreign exchange student, Andrea, is due in two weeks.
Becky is another year older although it is difficult to tell.
She is just back from her great trip to Spain and so
everything (kids, friends, job, and health) is great.
Visiting Rotarian Ms. Corrine Fiske was present and
celebrating her own birthday this week.
She reports things are busy with the new Fiske book, and more
work with “The Polite Child”.
The girls are healthy and active.
All is OK!
Bill reminded all that we have the Woodinville Rotary summer picnic
at 21 Acres on Saturday, August 22 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
Steve and Tana will be doing salmon, burgers, dogs and lots
of salads including potato salad and a green salad using 21 Acre
produce. Wine and beer
provided. Bring a lawn
chair if you want to sit down.
Sign up with Bill to let the team know how much to cook.
Bill did double duty reminding us of the need for procurement for
the auction. Among the
new items is a great package put together by former charter member
Rick Helberg and Daryl Eckland involving a week of pampering at
Rick’s Mexican hideaway near Puerto Vallarta.
Sandy and Dick Bell are offering a week at their Lahaina
condo. Good items!
Daryl topped off the morning winning the raffle and its $140 grand
prize. (We need to
change the color of the winning marble.
There is nothing good about green).
Max got a plate of Terry’s famous Woodinville figs.
Um, um, good.
Max passes up try for the marble in favor of a plate of Snappy's figs? |
