About Burritos, Romantic Songs, New Rotarians, Native Art,
Places to Kiss and other happenings at Rotaryville

“Burritos” is what we had for breakfast; some people figured it out that they taste much better without foil which by the way is not a Mexican native product, the burritos on the other had are. Susan led us in the Flag Salute and Snappy in a silent but thoughtful prayer.

File:LetMeCallYouSweethartWF.jpgPrincipal and sometimes music director Puckett (more on her later) brought us an appropriate song for the season (of love) that proved that if we set our minds and voices to we can actually sing half way decently, the song Let Me Call you Sweetheart published in 1910.

Let me call you "Sweetheart," I'm in love with you.

Let me hear you whisper that you love me too.

Keep the love-light glowing in your eyes so true.

Let me call you "Sweetheart," I'm in love with you.

Congratulations to the new and not so new Rotarians Cherry Tinker who received her Red Badge and who is being sponsored by Larry Leonardson, and Charlie Russell who received his long overdue Blue Batch.

The programs could have not been more opposite from each other or maybe not, one about best places to kiss in the Northwest and the other one about Northwest (at least there is this one similarity) native art.

Teri Citterman whom her expertise includes public relations, publishing, writing, and expert kissing in exciting places talked to us about her new book titled "The Best Places to Kiss in the Northwest" and as you can imagine everyone in the peanut gallery went nuts with her. She mentioned places that not even Jay Soloff knew of. Some of the places she described are in the rain forest in the Olympic Peninsula, Woodinville and Walla Walla wineries, and many others such as the Gulf Islands and the car wash at Barrier, (did she say that?) Not included in her list was K Winery which is odd because it has a beautiful front lawn equipped with a sprinkler system and all and it is just next door to Abeja where she said that kissing is good behind the barn. Then there is the “dark corner” at WHS that Francia knew about but not Principal Puckett. This reporter promptly suggested and offered Teri his assistance for a new book about the best places to kiss in a (Barrier) car. In closing she said that “kissing is like wine tasting the more you do the more options you have”. If you did not have a chance to buy her book and want one please contact Jay Soloff for a signed copy (by Teri) cost is about twenty some dollars, money well spend considering what one can learn.

Leslie Williams and her fourth graders Andrew Williams & Andrew Metz were next to thank us for the club’s $400 donation that made possible for the two Andrews and their classmates at Hollywood Hill Elementary to have Mr. Fernandez come to their school to teach them about Northwest native art, its meaning and function. Each Andrew presented us with a magnificent and huge thank you card with a very nice thank you note and lots of drawings made by the students based on what they learned from Mr. Fernandez they also showed us a beautiful quilt decorated with native Northwest art made by the students.

We recognized John Abbott’s birthday who celebrated his a day after Cathi’s, his wife. John told us about the wonderful year during which he and Cathi made two awesome trips to New Zeeland and Africa. Happy Birthday to both!

President Elect-Elect Erv reminded us of the talk that Helen Thayer is going to have at the Northshore Senior Center at 2 p.m. on February 15. This lady is amazing, checkout her web page http://www.helenthayer.com “Since that extraordinary trek to the Magnetic North Pole, Helen has traveled to Antarctica, crossed the Gobi Desert, crossed the Sahara Desert, kayaked the Amazon River, traveled with caribou herds in Alaska and the Yukon, and lived with wolves. Some of these adventures she did solo, but on most she was accompanied by her husband Bill” I wonder if they kissed at each one of these places and if they will be willing to share that part of their experience with us just like Teri just did.

President Elect Al in his role of sergeant wasted no time in assessing mostly unduly fines. One to Principal Puckett for not having proper lighting in the school (by then she had left the meeting) which made no sense for two reasons, one it did not take into consideration the environment when it comes to energy conservation and the other one because nobody should interfere with the student’s right to express their feelings in a semi-private environment. Next he imposed a fine on this writer for “hitting on the speaker” when all he was trying to do was to suggest an idea for a new book and to sell a car which now days is a matter of survival. However other fines were well justified like for instance the pre-pet tax assessed on our treasurer.

President Elect-Elect and Grand Exalted Appreciator was first with happy dollars because of a trip he and First Lady Elect-Elect took to the Bahamas with Past President and Past First Lady Truglio. Tana Montana had a happy dollar because of Gunther’s 74th birthday, Jay Fiske had many happy dollars to celebrate the publication of his book on how to have a successful charitable auction and was gracious to give a signed copy to Bonkers aka Grand Auction Leader. Jay Soloff had a few happy dollars because of his son Danny’s 18th birthday and because he earned his Eagle Scout, we are all proud of you Danny, and Charlie Russell had a happy dollar just for feeling good.

In the raffle Marv won the chance to pull the “white” now sometimes “crimson” or “duck green” marble to no avail, Bill Schink won an IOU for a bottle of wine.

Respectfully submitted at time when according to CNN.com
“House and Senate members confer over economic stimulus."
