Maltby Bill Schink Reporting

President Chris brought the meeting to order on time with the flag salute lead by Terry Jarvis, invocation given by Bill Schink and to phase us into the New Year the pair of Docs leading us in Auld Lang Syne.

Brett Halvorson (Korean name Lee Kil Woo) from Gift of Life International and a fellow Rotarian was the program speaker.

He provided an overview of the organization and how he became involved.   For 33 years, Gift of Live programs have focused on children with heart problems.  Their mission is to promote peace and understanding by providing free medical services to children suffering from congenital heart defects.  The success of these programs is due to the efforts of healthcare professionals, volunteers and members of Rotary Clubs.  Nearly 10,000 disadvantaged children from over 63 countries have received life-saving surgery.  Mr. Halvorson was a beneficiary of this program when at the age of 4 was flown from South Korea on Air Force One by President and Mrs. Reagan to the United States for corrective surgery.

Francia’s update started with photo op with Snappy.  She had a great Christmas, including baking cookies.  Pres Chris presented Francia a Rotary pin finishing with another photo.

Next week starts the second half of the Rotary year so make sure to have the latest Duty Roster.

Joe Truglio updated us on the Dictionary for 3rd Grader program. Team captains will be calling the school principals after New Years to arrange dates for distribution.  The plan is to distribute in the January 15 – February period.  As the dates are set, team captains will be calling for help.  This year we are adding two grade schools in Bothell.

Eric Greenwood and Chris Boland are the December Birthday boys.  Both seemed to have had a good year but where glad to see 2008 come to an end – something to do with the current economic conditions and election results.

The white marble draw was down to a 1 in 7 chance.  Karen McDonald made a valiant effort but was disappointed.

Snappy models Christmas sweater, waivers over fine!

Next week the chance to win further improves and it is expected that Terry and probably Jorge will start buying raffle tickets in huge quantities to get funding for a special summer social.

The meeting was closed 10 minutes early, with the extra time needed to plow through the snow and out of the parking lot.

                                                                    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED this 31st day of December, 2008.

                                                          Maltby Bill

The white marble rests among five others!
