Relying
on an Obama-like blitz for votes via the Internet, Ervin
A. DeSmet Jr. overcame intensive non-opposition and
swept to electoral victory in the annual Rotary Club of
Woodinville elections. He becomes the club's president-elect
on
July 1, 2009.
Rick
Pisani, past president in 2007-08, has resigned from the
club citing new medical and family duties making it
difficult for him to maintain active participation in the
club. Burke Barker has been granted a six-month leave
of absence.
Each
club member will be asked to sign up to attend
one of five firesides scheduled in January to provide
informal opportunity to learn more about club goals and to
provide input as to individual hopes and participation in
clukb avenues of service during 2009. Signup sheets will
begin floating about at meetings come Tuesday. The date
options are January 19, 20, 21, 22 and 26. They will be held
at 5:30 p.m. each day at Brittany Park in Woodinville.
Al
Marsh has been elected chair of the Woodinville Rotary
Charitable Foundation, the non-profit arm through which our
tax exempt charitable giving activities are conducted. Al
will serve until June 30, 2009.
Santa
and Mrs. Claus are expected for a return visit on
December 23 for the morning Rotary meeting. Gifts will be
exchanged, with Santa having the honors. Members will be
asked to bring a wrapped gift. Snappy will explain this
Tuesday.
Grace
Provisional Rotary has canceled its holiday meeting in
view of the fact that New Year's Day will fall on January 1,
2009.
Thirty-six
members, friends and spouses attended the highly
successful Producer's Party supporting The Music Project.
The coaching and musical performance program for underserved
youths appears headed for solid backing from the club as one
of our ongoing beneficiaries. The party was held to being
raising the $20,000 needed to continue the program at the
Secondary Academy for Success and have the possibility of
expanding the project to Woodin elementary and possibly
Timbercrest Junior High School.
Be
on the lookout for guests. As many as six
prospective members are being invited to attend meetings in
the near future. Be sure to make these guests of the club
feel welcome in the spirit of "Having Fun is Serious
Business" at Woodinville Rotary.
The
Rotary Club Board will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Banner
Bank. Finalizing of the 2009 Charitable Giving Plan is
expected along with a discussion on the status of the
Woodinville Sports Fields project.
Woodinville
Wine Country has donated $2,500 toward our
Viticulture and Enology Scholarship program supporting
students at Walla Walla Community College and Washington
State University. Thirty-one of 44 winery members have
already donated wine for 2009 Wine'n Shine. The others are
still to be contacted.
