Past President Rick Pisani Reporting

On a misty cool evening, it was nice to be able to come inside into the warm confines of the Monte Villa Farmhouse on the outskirts of Bothell to share some holiday spirit with fellow Rotarians and invited guests. Wine of every name, taste, and bottle shape was available with miraculously few duplications. The ladies looked festive in evening attire, some adorned with antlers and the like to symbolize the season. Not to be outdone, the men also had holiday motif ties, vests, etc. Roger Stark and his trio have grown into a quartet and they smoothly laid down tune after tune in perfect harmony. Your basic Woodinville Rotary Holiday Party!

Prez Chris Boland let folks mingle and start feasting on the lovely buffet items before toasting one and all in the club's name. Not unlike Santa, he had a list of items (though shorter than Santa's) to address. First, he presented our good friend Nacho with a little holiday check to bring back to Mexico with him. The crowd acknowledged Nacho's years of service on our behalf and made light of his uncanny ability to win raffle items despite only holding one ticket. Next, Steve Lingenbrink, our beloved assistant district governor from the past, was summoned to the stage. Chris gifted him with a lovely crystal wine flask engraved with a message of our indebtedness to him for his support of our Wine'n Shine charity event. Last, though certainly not least, John Hughes was called forth to finally take hold of an item that was intended to be handed over midsummer. It was a plaque recognizing his fifty (that's right five, zero) years of service in rotary. John humbly  accepted this well-deserved gift and noted that his exposure to Rotary dates back a generation to his dad, who having served in WWI, was asked to address a Rotary club in Atlanta about his war experience. That was back in 1919!

Then of course came the singing. And to this reporter's ears, it felt as if we had entered the Mormon tabernacle. Never has the club sounded so harmonious, and loud...in a good way. Vicki and Al kicked us off and then Joe appeared up front leading us in one song after another through one holiday favorite after another. No wonder Rick and Marilyn Helberg came all the way up from Mexico just for this party.

Roger and his crew then rocked the house sans vocals as folks polished off the last of the wonderful wine and said their goodbyes. So until next year, we will stash our song sheets and holiday gear with fond memories of this warm start to the holiday season.
