Club Leadership

Jorge Gonzalez Reporting

Lots of hard work from our members make this club what it is, and this morning was the perfect example of it, we managed under the leadership of President elect Al to take care of a lot of stuff in a relatively short time.

In a matter of ninety minutes or so we followed Baaab to the food line, we got what was left for us to eat, we did not find grapes in the food platter, we ate our food, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance, prayed, sang Let it be, introduced Cherry Tinker a visiting Rotarian from Sumner?, we listen to Trish Knox to talk about the upcoming Sammamish Re-leaf 2008, we signed a get-well card for Bob Maynard, we received our new Woodinville Rotary Club Roster and we thank Steve Dolan and Hugo for producing it, we heard from Bill Gowin on last week’s golf tournament and how Greg Riggs did so well for someone that cannot play (yeah sure!), we were reminded by Art Haines of the district conference in Victoria B.C. May 1 – 3, we welcomed Pam Johnston as the newest member of our club, Francia gave us an account of what she did last week- more on that later, we sang happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday mister president (remember when? same song different characters though) to Max Zellweger and Hugo and listened to their accounts of how their year was, we witnessed how Max did not pull the winning white marble and how many of the raffle tickets went unclaimed, Vicky said she was acting in slow motion, “Fire Chief pissed!” (I do not know where that came from but it is in my notes), we were asked to count how many days till the charity event, and gave Rorry, Roy and Bill a standing ovation for an outstanding effort.

And as if all of this was not enough, Eric took to the floor to take care of the day’s program, the charity event. First he released the dogs; you had to be there to know what I am talking about, it is hard to describe but eventually they were put back in the cage (after the music stopped), and with a PowerPoint presentation on hand every detail of the event was described, from who is doing what and when (7 a.m.) until what time (midnight or better), to cheerleaders, dictionary toss, reading with rover, $100 raffle tickets to win “anything you want”, a fund-a-need or two, and this time we are going for full scholarships and a sports field!

Now back to Francia who is from Bolivia. Bolivia as some of you may know is famous for many reasons one of which is that according to Hollywood it is the place where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were taken down, with bullets many bullets, more bullets than what Bunny and Clyde got. And just in case you did not know, it is “named after Simón Bolívar, is a landlocked country in central South America. It is bordered by Brazil on the north and east, Paraguay and Argentina on the south, and Chile and Peru on the west. From 1839 Sucre was the seat of government until the administrative capital was moved to La Paz in 1898. Sucre remains the constitutional capital and seat of the Supreme Court”. Now that we know a little bit about her country, imagine being parents whom after some deliberation and trepidation agree to send a daughter to America, the land of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Bunny and Clyde, for a full year to perfect her command of the English language, to learn about the country’s costumes and its people, to attend school and to have a good and safe time, just to find out that at one of her first school functions boys are being auctioned!

And with this I bid you farewell, at this time the DOW is twenty points down, a barrel of oil will cost you $105, you need a buck forty-six to buy an Euro, and our legislators are still trying to figure out what to do.
