Board
actions |
Here
are highlights from the August meeting
of the officers and club
directors:
The Board voted to
endorse the work of the Friends of Hidden Rivers to establish an
environmental education center at the new Brightwater treatment
plant. In addition, the Board agreed to add the Friends non-profit
organization to our list of beneficiaries for Wine'n Shine 2008
but without declaring any potential specific funding. Heard
a report from Community Service Director Joe Truglio that coats
are on order for Operation Warm distribution in December and that
Charlie Russell and Nancy McDonald have agreed to co-chair the
project this winter. Agreed
to provide a total of $1,018 in funding for four scholarships in
2009 that will not earn enough in asset distribution to meet their
value without our covering the shortfall. The scholarships are the
$2,000 Jerry Wilmot Masters of Business award at UW Bothell; the
new $1500 scholarship for 21 Acres education; the $2,000 Pride
Family grants; and the $1500 Peg Phillips Theater Arts
Scholarship. The club is also committed to fund the $2,000 Marv
Workman Business Scholarship renewal in '09 at UWB until such time
as the endowment is fully funded. Agreed
to renew our relationship with Woodinville Weekly in the selection
of the 2008 Citizen of the Year with Jon Bylin in search of a
member to head up that project. Agreed
to invite Village Volunteers to again participate in Wine'n Shine
as a means to continue support of the water filter project in
Kenya. Next
meeting, September 23. |

"Raffle" tickets will be printed this week and issued to
members at the next meeting. The prize this year is a two-day
getaway to Sun Mountain Lodge with dinner and/or a spa session.
The $5 tickets will come in books of 10 and it would be helpful if
each of our 56 members took a pair of books to help make this
another successful fund-raiser. |

5th
edition |
The wine procurement groups reports 11 wineries have contributed
and five more are in the "promise" stage towards
assembling the 5th edition of the Wines of Woodinville Collectors
Case. This year's edition will feature 18 wineries, a bottle from
each winery in the collector case. Two to go. Betz
Family Winery is one of three wineries that will be
making 2-ounce pours for guests during the silent auction. Bob and
Cathy supported our 2006 Wine'n Shine. Red Hook Brewery has again
agreed to quench the thirst of those favoring another beverage
option. |

Donation

Form |
Several members seeking donations for the live and silent auction
have asked that we have a donation receipt available to give to
the donor that includes our federal ID number, necessary for tax
purposes. Wineries are particularly insistent having this info.
So, here it is:

Table captains and members who have not
yet signed up to fill a table are encouraged to register NOW for
the October 4 event. REMINDER:
Through quarterly dues, all 56 Rotarians have or will have paid
for two tickets to Wine'n Shine 2008. By registering you and your
guests and telling us whether you or your guest will be paying the
guests' $125 tickets this year, this should eliminate considerable
confusion at the registration desk the night of the event. It will
also prevent your credit card being billed mistakenly for your own
tickets!
Check out this Table
Captains link for a list of those who have agreed to
"captain" a table. Twenty five have signed on.
Printed invitations are scheduled to be mailed the end of this
week to non-Woodinville Rotarians who have attended previous
Wine'n Shine events. If you have the name and info of someone you
would like to make sure receives an invite, please send that info
by mid-week to Joe Truglio.
Registration forms are available here. Please return in person at
a future meeting or by mail to P.O. Box 2016, Woodinville, WA
98072.

Consider
hosting a Benefactor or Patron Table
By hosting a Patron
Table ($2,000) or a Benefactor Table ($3,500), you and
your table's guests will each have special auction scrip that can
be used just like dollars when bidding for live auction items.
Those seated at a patron's table each receive $50 in scrip and
those at benefactor's tables each receive $150 in auction scrip.
Special recognition via Power Point and signage for the table will
also be included . . . not to mention being in the video spotlight
that night, appearing on the video screens throughout the event as
you put that auction scrip to work.
Individual
Patron tickets - $200 each, Benefactor tickets $350.
Scrip has no cash value, redeemable only night of Wine'n Shine |

Vicki
Puckett and her gang of decorating pros (Karen, Mike and Rhondi)
are looking for memorabilia that can be displayed (and returned to
owner) at Wine'n Shine that is in keeping with the decor and
attire theme of the evening. This means items representing your
alma mater or favorite sports team. Please let Vicki
know what you could provide (how and when). Pennants, pom
poms, megaphones, jerseys, you name it... |
