Prez-Elect Doc Marsh reporting

We opened up “Feelin’ Groovy.” La-da-da-da-dah….. The feelin’ lasted the entire hour….

Lots of visitors, TNTC….but including Pam Johnstone of Venture Bank; Redmond Rotarian Mike Amos; Richie of the well known Gowin family; John Schmied, strategic planner with the Friends of the Hidden River who is working on the environmental education center at Brightwater;  a young lady from Bolivia and Cathi Abbott.

John Abbot took us to Africa in far less time – more comfortably, too, I bet – than the 44 hours his flight took him and Cathi to reach Nairobi (including a 12-hour layover in London). We went visually, courtesy of Google Earth, but still enjoyed motion sickness to make the transition from Seattle extra special!

John and Cathi spent some three weeks touring the Kenya region,  “roughing it.” That’s a relative term, or course. Their tents were “rustic” right down to the Western style flush toilets and verandas. They were also apparently supplied with water holes just outside the tents, that they might enjoy instant photo ops of visiting wildlife of an evening, while sipping cooling drinks on those verandas. Oh, and did I mention the queen sized beds?

That said, the pics John showed us were amazing. Nice job! And great sound effects, too…

In the club business news…

Bill Gowin reminds us of the upcoming golf tournament on Sept 18 at Inglewood. There is room on the roster for 20 golfers. Please contact him for more details.

We met our incoming exchange student, Francia Antelo, of Bolivia. She will be staying initially with the very same Abbots.

Art Haines spoke of next spring’s District 5030 Conference, to be held in Victoria, B.C. on May 1-3. The district has asked for video of each club’s activities. If you have a digital video camera, and the time, and the desire, to begin recording our Club’s activities, please contact Art. Or, if you want to loan that camera, maybe Snappy….?

Wine'n Shine: 45 days as of Tuesday. Bring in those silent items! The live auction is filing up.

Joe Truglio reports that the catalog has received a good response. Still, there is room for 6-8 more ads, if anyone desires to contribute.

Susan Webster displayed a gorgeous quilt, made with a Mariners theme, which she acquired from the Jamie Moyer Foundation. It may possibly be offered as a raffle item.

Terry Jarvis reminded us of the invitation from the Kingston Rotary and Dan and Nancy Martin, to come to Kingston on Saturday, August 23. Walk on to the 3:05 Kingston ferry. You will be picked up in a vintage auto (guess whose) and transported to the Martins’ for afternoon cocktails. Then attend an evening of live music in downtown Kingston, after which you can stagger directly back on the ferry for home!

Birthdays: Becky Clark and Ken Kirkpatrick. Happy Birthdays!

Sorry Charlie, but there is a white marble in that box, really. (See above).
