Francia's
final meeting: Prepare
yourself for a tearful occasion. Francia Antelo will make
her final presentation Tuesday. Our vivacious Bolivian
beauty will leave for the annual exchange student
"safari" on June 27, return to Woodinville July 12
and fly home on the 14th. Francia is out of school the week
of June 21 in the event you would like to include her in any
of your plans this coming week. Wine'n
Shine Table Captains: Are
you ready to add your name to the list of those agreeing to
"captain" a table for Puttin' on the Ritz? Here's
who has stepped up so far: Jorge Gonzalez, Rorry Dunbar (2),
Greg Riggs, Alex Racz, Roger Stark, Chris Boland, Steve
Dolan, Al Marsh, Dennis Johnson, Eric Greenwood/Vicki
Puckett, Susan Webster, Terry Jarvis, Pam Johnstone/Becky
Clark, Marv Workman, Kathy Kill and John Hughes/Kiwanian
Eric Barnum! Our Woodinville Rotarian-wanna-bee Steve
Lingenbrink has already committed for a table (he had three
in 2008).
Membership
proposed: The
membership has submitted the name of Todd Banks for
Rotary membership. Todd is general manager of Kenmore, a
Woodinville resident with three school-age children at
Hollywood Hill elementary, and member of a strong Rotary
family. His mother, Leslie, is a long-time member of
Northshore Rotary, our mother club, and serves as the
administration committee chair of the Northshore Scholarship
Foundation. Her father, Bob Munro, founded the floatplane
seaport in Kenmore, was a charter member and past president
of Northshore Rotary and was a trustee of the scholarship
foundation. An endowment was established in memory of Bob
and Ruth Munro in our scholarship foundation. This is the
second of two postings of the membership proposal. Questions
or concerns related to this proposal should be addressed to
the president or club secretary. Todd is sponsored by John
Hughes. Wine
for installation dinner: If
you haven't added a bottle of Washington wine to the social
hour collection for the annual installation dinner.....the
sgt. at harm advises that you bring to the upcoming
breakfast meeting Tuesday! The event is July 7 at Willows
Lodge in Woodinville. Support
withdrawn: At
a joint meeting of outgoing and incoming boards of directors
June 16, the officers and directors voted to withdraw club
financial support of the City of Woodinville Sports Fields
project. The board cited uncertainty over the scope, cost
and oft-delayed timing of the program. The Board also expressed
concern over the private fund-raising outcome, questions
over future maintenance and replacement costs, contention
within the city council over the priority given the public
project, as well as the lack of response from the city
relative to the club's condition for on-site recognition of
Rotary and our two community service partners. The
Board voted to notify Wine'n Shine 2008 donors of this
action, the club having received $13,600 donated under the
"Fund-a-Need" segment of the auction proceedings.
Donors who raised their bid card to contribute to
the Sports Field project will
be given three options, requesting that the club either:
1) refund the donor's contribution.
2) forward their contribution to
the city's parks and recreation fund.
3) donate their contribution to the
new electronic scoreboard project at Pop Keeney Field in
Bothell where the district's high schools hold football
games and soccer matches. Steering
committee for Wine'n Shine: Chair
Eric Greenwood has re-scheduled the monthly planning
meeting to July 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the offices of Rorry
Dunbar. Mariners
anyone?: District
5030 is promoting attendance at the July 9 Mariners game
versus the mighty and barely division-leading Texas Rangers. Doc
Marsh's email on Mariner Night included this info: "The
Seattle Mariners have teamed up with our Rotary District and
generously offered to donate $7 per ticket we sell to Rotary
and our fight against Polio. To get this donation, the
tickets must be purchased through the following link: www.Mariners.com/Rotary
"
Reserve
August 22: The
club's annual family picnic will be held on Saturday, August
22, at 21 Acres in Woodinville. Tana Baumler and Steve Dolan
have again been enlisted to flip burgers. Tentative starting
time: 4 p.m. Members of the 21 Acres program will provide
tours of the site, including the 18 acres of vegetable and
berry crops under production. Volunteers will be asked to
help with setup and the gathering and preparation of a
community salad for the event. There's plenty of room for a
mini car show, too.
