President
Chris Boland called the meeting to order at 7:30 AM. Jay Fiske and daughters Alexis and Regan led the Club in the
Pledge of Alliance. Vicki gave the Invocation and Al Marsh lead the
group sing of “Rain City Lament” about the lack of sunshine in the
Seattle area. Guests
were Cathy Swanson (Woodinville Citizen of the Year), Ed Todd
(Northshore Public Education Foundation) and Susan Stoltzfus, Northshore
School District communications director.
Children attending the meeting with fathers were Alexis
and Regan Fiske, and Matthew Hopkins. Jon
Bylin introduced Cathy Swanson as the Woodinville Citizen of the Year.
Cathy requested the $1,000 prize to be equally divided between
the Northshore Scholarship Foundation and Northshore Public Education
Foundation.
Cherry
Tinker introduced Steve Brown, the CEO of Evergreen Healthcare, as the
program speaker. The title
of his presentation was “Exceptional Care for Exceptional
Communities”. Evergreen opened in 1972 and has grown to be a 275 bed Hospital Medical Center with healthcare
services that include medical groups, home care, hospice and many other
services. He provided a brief history, growth plans, touched on research
studies, future facility expansions and discussed medical and economic
trends. Roger
Martindill presented blue badges to 3 red badge Rotarians –Fred Kempe,
Cherry Tinker and Alex Racz and welcomed them to the club.
Present Boland lead the membership in pledging support of the new
members.
Francia
shared pictures of the Senior Prom held at the Seattle Aquarium with
dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Club
announcements were: ·
Open
House at the Woodinville Fire Department Friday May 15 at 11:30AM –
1:00PM. ·
Scholarship
Recognition Breakfast next Tuesday May 19 at the Northshore Senior
Center. Volunteers, be there at 6:00AM. No regular Tuesday morning
Rotary meeting. ·
Triple
Door/SAS event May 26, travel by luxury bus and have a great evening. ·
Daryl
Eckland requested that each members bring a bottle of wine to the May 26
Tuesday meeting for the July 7 Installation
Dinner. ·
Board
Meeting at 9:00AM at Banner Bank. Two birthday boys, Bill Schink turned 70 and Mike Visse was a lot younger. Life is good for both. Erv
DeSmet , the Sergeant of Harm, evoked the name of D.K. Lee, Rotary
International President, to justify his creative but capricious and
arbitrary application of fines which included:
Bob Rosso for “female overload” at his table
Larry Duffield a new car happy tax.
Note: Jorge generously paid the fine.
Steve Brown wanted to be fined and was
Roger Stark a new car tax
Happy
$’s included David Landau and Mary Jane for 31 years of marriage;
Larry Duffield back from surgery, appreciated all the get well cards,
will attend the 24 hours at LeMans and his second son is getting
married; Bob Rosso praised the Evergreen Hospital and its staff; Jay
Soloff’s daughter Leah has taken a position with a New York fashion PR
firm and will be working at their Los Angeles office; and
Rorry’s daughter Colette got her Learners Permit, so be warned. The
“Green” marble pot stood at $148; however, Bill Gowin was unable to
draw the winner. REMINDER,
1) next week Northshore Scholarship Recognition breakfast with
volunteers arriving at 6:00AM at the Northshore Senior Center, 2) for
May 26 Rotary Meeting bring a Washington Wine for the July 7
Installation Dinner, and 3) get those Auction Procurement Forms/items turned in.
