Club Leadership

Rebecca (Ace) Clark reporting

Many Rotarians, along with spouses and significant others, showed up at Red Hook Brewery for a fun and informative evening.  The summer picnic fare was appreciated by all, despite the near freezing temperatures.  The Nanaimo Bars were particularly popular as was the beer!

The Fleece Roger campaign was both celebrated and closed, with a grand total of well over $1700 being raised – to be matched by Roger Martindill.  Fleece Martindill presented each of the campaign contributors with a pin and Fleece, in turn, was presented with a sincere vote of thanks from the Club leadership, along with a birthday cake (good thing the Fire Department was present) and a birthday gift of a Rotary-insignia fleece jacket.  After the presentation, Roger said he would “take back” everything he previously said about his fellow Rotarians.

Those of you who were not there missed a good time and most importantly, you missed an opportunity to find out which of your fellow Rotarians are accomplished liars.  As it turns out, only one person was not able to stump the audience and that would be your intrepid reporter.  Just goes to show who is not accustomed to telling tall tales!

Did you know that  ROOO TAAA REEEY Erv was actually a high school cheer leader in earlier days and that Joe from Lynnwood was Student Body President of Armstrong College?  Alex Racz participated in the protests of WTO on February 30th, 1999 and Dennis Johnson had a ponytail when he shook the hand of then-President Clinton (a tall dude himself).  Kathy Kill drove past a policeman and 110 mph and did not receive a ticket (who’s sleeping at that wheel?) and John Creason was detained in China for smuggling a Bible. Fitz won the World’s Record for logging the longest flight (6 hours, 31 minutes) in the class of plane he flew to Wisconsin.  And, finally, Greg Gratz won a scholarship to North Dakota for hockey and John Bylin’s wife Halley has not scaled the Great Wall of China. . . she is, however, expecting Baby Boy Bylin in mid-June.

Special thanks to Chief Johnson’s grandson, Caden, visiting from Idaho, for his able assistance in the costume department – what a cute kid that one is!  We have all agreed that John Creason looks darling in a princess hat.

Respectfully Submitted,
