Alan's "Angle" Report

Highlights of the meeting of Tuesday, January 22, 2008

With all due respect to Lemony Snicket, I encountered a Serious of Unfortunate Events starting Monday evening. The events “played” out as follows:

1st Event – I answered the phone

2nd Event – Fellow Rotarian Larry L was on the line asking a favor

3rd Event – I agreed!

With all jest aside, it is great being back in these pages (twice in a month!) and now, on to the meeting! It was mighty chilly Tuesday morning, but it was great being in the warm Grange Hall. Yours truly got mixed up on dates with Dr. Roger S. and showed up early to run the raffle table. Lo and behold, Dr S. was already there! I am due on that table in February (Sgt. Chris B. ‘overlooked’ my misdeed).  Hissoner Rick P. gaveled the meeting to order, Evan M. led us in the flag salute, and John N. did the invocation. Unfortunately, our Rotary District representative could not join us. But, our trusted leader was “nimble” and formulated a plan B very quickly (it is all that NYBA coaching experience finally having a benefit).

Our meeting was turned into an informal business meeting with Hissoner being the moderator and each table giving their opinions on various topics affecting our club. Each table had a spokesperson and spoke in behalf of their respective tables. The first topic of discussion was our Installation Dinner in June. Should it be formal and at a nice place (i.e. The Willows Lodge) or should we do something different? Eric G., Gary W., Linda H., Steve D. & Julian D. “volunteered” to be spokespersons. For the most part, everyone liked the event at Willows, are flexible for a change, but are concerned that the previous event there was a bit too formal and some fun needed to be added.

Second topic was classification talks; should we start them up again? There was consensus that we should do this. Third topic was a board retreat; should we do this again? Everyone agreed that this was a great idea (Except for Linda H’s table, who wanted to do a work party instead. Names were taken), but open it so that the entire membership would have the opportunity to attend, as well. Last topic was programs; what would we like to see as future programs? Most agreed that we would like to see more informational programs (i.e. State of Woodinville, Sheriff Sue Rahr, etc). We understand that we are a charitable organization, but if we could intersperse more of the informational type programs with the charitable programs, the membership would enjoy the programs more.

And with that, the meeting was adjourned and my work here was completed. I will see you again soon in these pages.

   Thanks for listening..

                                                             - - - Respectfully submitted by Alan Nelson
