Highlights of the meeting of Tuesday, January 8, 2008

Well, it is great being back in these pages. It seems like I haven’t been here since last year…and with that Happy New Year to all! Now, on to the meeting. Tuesday morning was gray and chilly but it was certainly warm and colorful in the Grange Hall. Hissoner Rick P. gaveled the meeting to order, Bill G. leading us in our flag salute, Greg G. the invocation, and hissoner-elect-elect, Dr. M “choreographing” a rousing rendition of When I am ‘Ninety-Four’ (Sir Paul should not worry about copyright infringement).

Our resident Lady Falcon, Laura updated us on her activities over the holidays and gave us a team update. Greg G., Becky C., Snappy, & Steve D. read various thank you cards from the 3rd graders who received dictionaries on behalf of the Woodinville Rotary. Bill Cosby would be proud! Happy Birthday was sung to Dr. M (hence, the ‘manipulation’ of the lyrics to our morning song) & “Nacho”.  Sgt. Boland ‘commuted’ a few ‘sentences’, as well as fining a few ‘wrong-doers’.

Hugo opened up the program part of the meeting by announcing that on April 22nd (Earth Day) additional grape vines will be planted at the new “Viking Gardens Block” at the Molbak Plant Farm south of Woodinville for additional production of the world renowned Wrecking Yard Gold. All fellow Rotarians are invited to this ‘once in a lifetime’ event! Hugo also listed other upcoming events:

1.      July 26th & 27th, Woodinville Wine Country will hold its first annual ‘wineries’ music concert event and Woodinville Rotary has enthusiastically agreed to be a supporting partner to this event.

2.      August 24th – August 31st, Cruisin’ with Marv

3.      October 4th , Our culminating “Wine & Shine” charitable event at the Meydenbauer

With that, Hugo introduced the chair for our “Wine & Shine” event this year, Eric G.  Eric gave us a little history on the event. Darryl E. was the 1st auction chair, held in conjunction with the Northshore Rotary Club; the goal for our first auction on our own was to raise $10,000 and $15,000 was raised. This year, our goal is a little higher, $155,000 net to the community! Our  Rotary has pledged $75,000 to the sports field campaign. At this point, hissoner Rick gave an overview on the park and what it means to Woodinville. Banner Bank has signed on again as a community service partner for this event. Eric updated us on the committee chairs and recapped all the upcoming events.  Though the task is daunting, this writer has complete faith that we will accomplish our goal…and some! Godspeed, Eric G!

Well folks, I’ve come to the end again. It certainly has been nice being back in these pages. Thanks for browsing. Oh, I almost forgot. GO Seahawks and GO Colts!
