Highlights of the meeting of Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007

The Woodinville Rotary Club (aka “Rotaryville” and provisional charter club of the Greater Grace Club) met on November 20th of the year 2007. The theme of the day’s meetings was Show Your Colors. The Grange was decorated festively for the occasion by the fun committee, each of whom showed up at 6:00 AM to do this. This reporter applauds the efforts of the few who dedicated their early morning hours for such a good cause, which turned out to be a good time.

President-Elect Crimson Chris Boland who was wearing crimson in honor of the occasion got the proceedings started promptly. Jorge Gonzalez provided a moving invocation in his native tongue of Spanish and the Star Spangled Banner was sung by one and all with Doc Marsh leading the way. President-Elect Boland

There were no guests or visiting Rotarians today.

Our exchange student from France chose to speak in French of her week. Prior to indulging in her native tongue, Laura did state that she had been to a basketball game. After much discussion by those familiar with Laura’s native tongue, her statements were declared to be true and correct, met the four-way test, by Rotaryville and received a stamp of approval. Some familiar with French wines hinted at the correctness as well.

After this Eric Greenwood announced that the Christmas Party will be held at the Monte Villa Farmhouse in Bothell (same place as last year) on December 4th. The Roger Stark Quartet will be playing during the evening. The party begins at 6:00 PM. Eric asked the attending Rotarians to each bring a bottle of wine for the event.

Larry Duffield announced that the coat drive has been successful. Susan Webster updated us on the dictionary distribution for third graders. Three schools have been provided with dictionaries so far. Volunteers are welcome for the remaining schools in the area. Susan stated that distributing the dictionaries is a one hour commitment. She will send out an email with further details.

Jay Soloff told us that DeLille Cellars was voted one of the top 100 winemakers in the world and one of the top five in Washington state. Don Fitzpatrick visited Norm Nobel’s club in Arizona and was obliged to purchase a copy of Norm’s new book. Jay Fiske met with Chuck Jaeger at an auction and survived six airplane trips within the span of three days to make the meeting.

Show Your Colors Program. The Rotary Cheer was led by Susan Webster and Snappy with all of the Rotarians contributing. Many volunteered and sang their school fight songs for the three judges, with the winners the following: Dr. Alan Marsh, Dr. Bob Maynard (Pair O Docs), and Erv DeSmet. Dr. Marsh sang his Iowa fight song. Dr. Maynard sang his Syracuse Forestry song. Erv DeSmet led the cheer for the Greater Grace Wine Tasting Society. The meeting ended with the Rotary Cheer again.
