support of Celebrate Literacy.

The bank has agreed to support
our Rotary Wine'n Shine
plans for 2008 with a similar
contribution.

President Rick presented Rotary First Harvest's
Jacki Lorenz with club's financial support for 2007.

Lee Harper of Northshore Senior Services received check from services director Susan Webster to help with purchase of new van for seniors.

Highlights of the meeting of Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007

Guests:
Lee Harper – Executive Director – Northshore Senior Center

Diane Kolb  - Executive Director – Children’s Country Home

Tom Quigley – Owner – Olympic Nursery

Program:
Jacki Lorenz, Development Director for Rotary First Harvest (RFH) brought the club up to speed on operations.    RFH gathers wholesome surplus food for the hungry.  Basically a food broker, RFH finds fresh fruit, produce and processed foods, arranges transportation and tracks the product until it quickly reaches a local food bank or food bank distribution center.  25% of edible food typically ends up in land fill.

RFH even trades produce with other states, such as apples for citrus fruits or watermelon from CA.

With an average operating overhead of less than 4%, RFH gets millions of pounds of nutritious food, otherwise wasted, into the hands of those who need it the most.

Trucking used to be free but, with fuel prices escalating, RFH is now having to help pay.  To offset this increase RFH relies on Harvest Partners (direct donations from the public), Speaker Gift Cards (which Woodinville Rotary gives to its speakers) and Holiday Gifts Cards (which individuals or corporations can send at Christmas time.  Jacki would be very happy to answer your questions at 206-236-0408.

Resignation:
Jerry Cufley will be retiring from the club to spend more time with his family.  We hope to see him again soon.

Operation Warm and Santa’s Breakfast:
Larry Duffield says, “One of the concerns over the last several years at the Santa Breakfast is that we have been running out of the larger jacket sizes or don't have a large enough size available. Susan Webster advises that our Vendor for the coats only offers coats up to size 14. Because of that, we have kids who need a larger size leave without a jacket.

My proposal is to fund the purchase of some larger jackets so that no one goes without a warm jacket this year. We are asking for $20 from each member to help fund this program. For every $20, you will receive a chance to have your name drawn to win a night at the Woodmark Hotel at Carillon Point, $100 toward the award winning restaurant Waters at the Hotel, plus $100 Credit to the Spa at the Woodmark.

We will be accepting your donations for the remaining meetings in November and will draw for the Grand Prize on December 4th.”

The Santa Breakfast is Dec. 8th at Northshore Jr Hi.

Sgt. Mom-Tana:
Becky Clark received a fine waiver for bagging up auction items for the successful bidder to take home, even though she was convalescing.

5th Tuesday Social saw the creation of the ‘Bad Boys Club’.  Charter members include Jarvis, Riggs, Schink & Hughes.  Indiscretions seemed to be of a marital nature.

Leonardson took a trip to the SE to see if college football was any better there.

Puckett says WHS is hot on playoffs.  Football, volleyball, cross country, swimming and soccer have had exceptional seasons.

Rosso, Duck Dude, wants to start a new charity, to send  Bob & Judy Rosso to the National Championship.

Truglio was in Santa Fe for his 39th wedding anniversary.

Williams youngest son turns 9 today, with his oldest turning 25 in a couple of weeks.

                                                                       Respectfully submitted by Baaab Russell
