The Fitz Report

Sarah Bates, with 5-week-old Cassin,
received UW Bothell nursing renewal. Sarah lives in Bellingham and commutes to the Bothell campus in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Cory Mayberry of Woodinville and daughter Frankie received UWB computing and software systems scholarship following graduation from Lake Washington Technical College

Rotary greets scholarship winners and family!

Highlights of the meeting of Tuesday, October 23

Charlotte Becker attended with son Nik. She received the scholarship in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Science degree program at UW Bothell.

Tiffany Hancock is in her first year at Cascadia Community College and received the Anderson memorial scholarship offered through the Northshore Scholarship Foundation.

Distinguished visitors included Liz Swanson, Alumni Development at UW Bothell; Kenyon Chan, Chancellor, UW Bothell; Dr. Bill Christopher, Cascadia President; Martin Habib; and, of course, our exchange student, soft spoken Laura.

The program was introduced by Grand Marshal, John Hughes.

In lieu of a speaker, we heard from several scholarship recipients at Cascadia and UW Bothell.  Sarah Bates, Nursing 2008; Charlotte Becker; Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences 2008; Cory Mayberry, Computing & Software Systems 2009.  In addition we heard from Alice Clarke (recipient of Jerry Wilmot masters of business ), Andrew Teachout (freshman recipient of Marv Workman business scholarship), and Andrew Zillig (recipient of teacher certification scholarship), via letters read by others.  They all conveyed a message of appreciation and dedication to their goals.

Kenyon Chan thanked us for our partnership in education efforts and brought us up to date on new programs and growth.  Dr. Christopher bragged incessantly about being the number 2 community college in the nation!

Announcements included no regular meeting next week, but meet at 6:00 PM at the Hart Property, 14850 NE 31st Circle, Redmond, 98052.  Bring salad or desert and a beverage.

Art Haines announced District Conference on May 16-18 in the Tri Cities, and International Conference June 16-18 in Los Angeles.

John Hughes announced a tripling of potential production from the Grace Town Vineyards after installation today, of high tech trellises for an additional 24 Pinot Noir vines, at Viking Gardens, in front of the Molbak Plant Farm.  (This reporter did follow up by going over to inspect the installation, and determined it was done very professionally.)

Linda Hendrickson invited us to the Capstone Celebration on November 2nd, featuring the Roger Stark Quartet.

Susan Webster announced the operation warm event on Saturday, December 8th, at Northshore Junior High, and requested help on this Friday, October 26th, at 9:15 AM to deliver coats to storage.

The Sergeant, Crimson Chris, allowed Julian to relate his story of service above self and his experience using a tow truck to save gas.  Marty was fined for forgetting the Alzheimer’s publicity.  Jay Fiske will be assisted by Chuck Yeager.  And Steve Dolan’s parents celebrated 60 years together.

The “Duffer” missed the marble.  Five others quietly selected raffle prizes from Sake to Chocolate.

Linda Hendrickson read letter from William Clewell, recipient of our
$2000 scholarship at
Cascadia Community College for 2007-08.

    Laura recalls her week . . .

And, to triple production, a work detail at the new Viking Gardens Block of Grace Town Vineyards is seen preparing to install high tech trellis system for pinot noir vines to be planted on Earth Day, April 22, 2008 at the Molbak Plant Farm site. The berm was recently annexed to the town of Grace.
