u Board of Directors Update Club eyes support for "Woodinville Fields" Woodinville Rotary Club has the
opportunity to become a major player in the development of the new
Woodinville Fields complex at the Edwards Community Center in downtown
Woodinville.
At this past Tuesday’s board meeting held at Woodinville City
Hall, the officers and chairs voted to commit future proceeds of our
annual charity events in 2008 through 2010 to support the substantial
upgrading of sports fields, parking, lighting and a walking loop on
property across the street from Wilmot Gateway Park. The action does not
impact our 2007 beneficiary plan to celebrate literacy.
President Rick and I plan to present more details of this
opportunity at Tuesday’s meeting during a short presentation. The
Board heard in detail the plans and financial requirements when it met
with Parks Director Lane Youngblood at the monthly Board meeting.
The city plans a fund-raising campaign kickoff October 27. In the
interim, the Board needs member-input as to recognition and
member-reaction to the Board’s decision to undertake an obligation of
up to $60,000-$75,000. Lane and the campaign leaders would appreciate
being able to inform the public that Woodinville Rotary is fully on
board another important civic project as we have provided leadership and
support in the past with Rotary Community Park ($90,000) and Wilmot Park
($126,000). 1

A Celebration of the Life of Karen Forys will be held Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church. Dr. Forys served as Northshore school superintendent the past 13 years. She was a past president of Northshore Rotary Club and was named the state's Superintendent of the Year and a national finalist for that honor in 1999. We were fortunate to have met with her this past day after Labor Day when she encouraged our club's efforts to: Celebrate Literacy Memorials
