Membership
Proposed The
Board has approved the proposed membership of Alex Hopkins
of Woodinville. Alex is the immediate past president of the
Edmonds Rotary Club. He is proposed by the membership committee.
This is the first of two notices regarding this membership
proposal. Questions or concerns relative to Alex joining the
dynamic Woodinville Rotary Club should be addressed to the
President or Secretary. Alex's
classification is Sales-Laboratory Equipment. Alex, his wife Julie
and son Matthew are active in the Woodinville Community. |

90
dictionaries distributed at Woodin elementary

"the
school that would not die!"
Third
graders at Woodin elementary each received brand new dictionaries at
school on Friday, the last of the dictionaries the club is distributing
this school year. Susan Webster, Rick Pisani, Eric Greenwood and John
Hughes handled the distribution and got acquainted with third grade
teacher Ann Swain who, it turned out, was especially appreciative of the
work of Rotary -- as she was a member of Rotary in Hood River, Oregon at
one time. She raised three daughters, all of whom received scholarship
help that made it possible for each to attend college, graduate with
honors and be doing well in their chosen careers. You never know what
rewards will come from the joyous duty of encouraging kids along the
important path of literacy, education and scholarship. Incidentally,
Woodin was the elementary school that the district proposed be closed as
a result of declining Northshore enrollment. A storm of protest and
concern among parents and the education community led the school board
to reverse that decision -- at least for next school year. Woodin is one
of the more diversely populated schools in the district and certainly a
candidate for further literacy support.
Exchange
student chair Larry Duffield is looking for host families
for the young woman arriving from Bolivia in August.
Quarterly
membership invoices went out recently. Notice a small
increase in quarterly charges? This reflects the decision to charge $125
per person for Wine'n Shine 2008 attendance (increased from $100 each).
Wine'n
Shine Steering Committee next meeting will be June 13 at 3
p.m. at the offices of Jay Fiske's NW Benefit Auctions in Bellevue.
The
club has received a $2,000 matching grant
for scholarship endowment purposes from the state's Higher Education
Coordinating Board. The funds will be added to a Woodinville
Rotary-sponsored endowment held in the Northshore Scholarship
Foundation.
For
those collecting wine donations for
Wine'n Shine in October, you can bring the cases or selection of bottles
to a meeting and they will be stored in the club temperature-controlled
storage unit.
