Club Leadership

Eric Greenwood, Rotary 'Reportering'

The meeting was gaveled to order by President Pisani who launched the proceedings by leading the Flag Salute which was followed by a mystery second verse of the American standard led by Songmeister Marsh.

The Club’s visiting Assistant District Governor Steve Lingenbrink was introduced and offered many reasons why attending the upcoming District Conference was an event not to miss as well as the International Conference in Los Angeles.  ADG Lingenbrink then reviewed his recent trip to the Caribbean with members of the high school team from Computers for the World.  A total of 220 computers were installed during the trip.

Jeff Kenoli of Computers 4 the World with Forest Ridge High School discussed the financial logistics related to shipping computers.  President Pisani passed the “box” which raised $382 in contributions to help towards a trip to deliver rebuilt computers to Ghana this summer.

Susan Webster next introduced Marilyn Mason-Plunket, President/CEO of Hopelink, who was presented a $10,000 donation from Woodinville Rotary to support the literacy programs of Hopelink.  She noted that “Education is the key component to moving out of poverty.”  It was also reported that the current economic hard times have resulted in a 30% increase in people needing the support of Hopelink’s food banks.

Daryl Eckland reported on the plans for the June 24th Installation Dinner, and requested that members bring a bottle (or two) of their favorite wine to the next meeting.  The wine will stored at cellar temperatures until poured at the annual event.

Following a birthday greeting for Bill Schink and Mike Visse, the Sergeant at Harm, Larry Leondardson, began extracting dollars from our newsworthy membership:  John Creason for mention in  the Wall Street Journal; Hugo, Jarvis and Fitz for reporting in the Puget Sound Business Journal, Linda Hendrickson for an article about Cascadia Community College fund raiser in the Woodinville Weekly.  Fitz was also fined travel tax for his upcoming trip to Peru and the Galapagos Islands.  Roger Stark was fined an employment tax for joining the working class.

Kathy Kill set a new standard for classification talks by reviewing her life story from growing up in Wenatchee, becoming a single mother with two children, her recent marriage to Jason, and the growth in her banking career from teller to branch manager at Banner Bank.  Her advice: work hard and make your life experiences become meaningful learning.

Following a reminder of the goals and financial parameters of the 2008 Wine and Shine Charity Event by Eric Greenwood, the charming duo of the Audience Development Committee (or Arizona Department of Corrections) Linda Hendrickson and Becky Clark provided an overview of the need to find “bidders not eaters” for the October event.  A total of 18 members signed up as table captains.

There being no further business, President Rick adjourned the proceedings.

                                                                           Respectfully submitted, Eric Greenwood
