Did you hear about the magician who was walking down the street and turned into a bar?

The geologist walked right down to the river and said to the river:

"I'll bet your river bottom is littered with small rocks, dead animals, mud slides, silt and and other particulate inorganic matter."

To which the river responded:

"My sediments exactly."

Q: Why can't you hear a pterodactyl go to the bathroom?

A: Because the "P" is silent.

Changing of the guard

. . . Rotary Reporter Susan Webster provides recap

From annual installation dinner, TUESDAY, June 26

Willows Lodge

Woodinville, WA

“Think Big” says Erv DeSmet, echoing the words of Bill Gates, Sr. at the Rotary International Conference this year in Salt Lake City, Utah.  “Do service above self and reap the benefits of doing service for others while strengthening the self.”  Erv came back from RI pumped with enthusiasm for the year ahead.  Yeah!

Steve Lingenbrink congratulated the new Paul Harris Fellows, Jay Fiske and Rick Pisani, who soon will be elevated to Paul Harris status.  What does it mean to be a Paul Harris fellow?  A mere one hundred dollars a year for ten years translates into goals achieved, matching grants, actualization of projects like wells in Guatemala and Kenya.  Steve say’s thank you for giving to Rotary International.

President Whitsell introduced and welcomed the new members into our club for 2006-07. Ken Kirkpatrick, Julian Denes, Chief Dennis Johnson, Kathy Kill, Burke Barker and Jerry Cufley.  “Follow your passion” as Gary repeatedly reminds us with a renewed spirit each time.

A year in review slide show a la Hughes and Webster brings chuckles and recollections from the crowd of 80 or more on a beautiful June evening thanks to PokingFun Press.

Yellow Roses for the lady, or “first babe” of Rotary.  Gary holds back tears and Donna gently pats her eyes at the head table with Gary’s parents in attendance as well as son Whitsell.

Thank you’s begin first to Daryl and Max for organizing the evening with dinner and wine.

Prez thanks the "Extractors" --- aka Sgt. at Arms

The club says "Yes" to Rick Pisani as the gavel is passed.  President Pisani makes predictions and thanks his family for making him what he is.

Prediction 1.  Julian Denes will lead a group of 30 or more to the Tri-Cities for District Conference.

Prediction 2.  Rotary Shares will be a new goal of the club.

Prediction 3.  Literacy goals will be strengthened by a $25,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation and others.

Prediction 4.  “Think Big” will translate into 25 or more service goals and achievements for our club.

Hugo Briefs . . . The Village Volunteers Action Club at UW Bothell will benefit from a dinner offer July 9 at the Canyon restaurants at Canyon Park and Mountlake Terrace.
