6 p.m. - Priming

6:30 p.m. - Blind Tasting

7:30 p.m. - Dinner

Presented by Leigh Brink of Alexa's Catering and officials of
Grace Town Vineyards

Monte Villa Farmhouse
3300 Monte Villa Parkway - Bothell 98021

Although each of the Rotary wine tastings staged by Grace Town Vineyards are intended to be enjoyable and fun ... each event takes on a slightly professional approach in evaluating the wines presented for tasting. At this blind tasting, for example, participants will not only be asked to select their favorites among five wonderful syrahs, each will be asked to make an effort at determining which syrah represents which of the five wineries from which the tasting team made their selections.

During instructions and "priming" from 6 to 6:30 p.m., participants will enjoy a glass of Brian Carter Cellars 2004 Oriana, a pleasant white designed to clear the palate for the syrah road ahead . .

The five wines to taste are:

Cayuse Syrah (vintage and vineyards to be determined)
 2001 Apex Yakima Valley Syrah
 2004 Mark Ryan Wild-Eyed Syrah
2004 Bergevin Lane Vineyards Wahluke Slope Syrah
2003 Chateau Ste. Michelle Cold Creek Vineyard Columbia Valley Syrah

The dinner menu, supported by a 2003 Governor's Blend from College Cellars at Walla Walla Community College:

Baked Tenderloin Fillet, served with a Burgundy and Wild Mushroom Sauce
Spinach Salad with fresh-sliced Strawberries and Feta Cheese
Baby New Potatoes, steamed and served hot in Dill Butter
   Roasted Asparagus served room temperature
   Ciabbata and Butter
Chocolate Delights to Grace the table

Meal and facilities donated by Leigh Brink.

The wines will be judged according to the tried and tested Oswald D. Canter's rating system and the tasting will be done under the direction of Gustav T. Williger, Grace Town Viticulturalist and the associate viticulturalist, Ms. Catherine Hinken-Jones.

Proceeds from these semi-annual wine tastings, from the Tour de Grace adventure to Walla Walla, and from the offering of wine futures of Reckonyard Gold are devoted to scholarships at Walla Walla Community College and its groundbreaking Viticulture and Enology Institute. Reckonyard Gold pinot noir is produced from the DeSoto Block at Grace Town Vineyards. The tastings are a partnership among Woodinville Rotary Charitable Foundation, Grace Town Vineyards and Alexa's Cafe & Catering.

The 2005 Reckonyard Gold vintage is sold out and is scheduled to be released about Valentine's Day in 2007. Futures for the 2006 vintage will be announced following the first official barrel tasting. A vertical collection of Reckonyard (2003, 2004, 2005) (one only) will be announced in conjunction with the availability of futures from the stellar 2006 harvest.
