Did you hear about the magician who was walking down the street and turned into a bar?

The geologist walked right down to the river and said to the river:

"I'll bet your river bottom is littered with small rocks, dead animals, mud slides, silt and and other particulate inorganic matter."

To which the river responded:

"My sediments exactly."

Q: Why can't you hear a pterodactyl go to the bathroom?

A: Because the "P" is silent.

Impromptu talks, no white marble . . .

. . . Rotary Reporter Bill Schink reporting

From meeting of TUESDAY, June 1

Chris Boland, the next president-elect standing in for Gary Whitsell opened the Rotary meeting at 7:30 AM.  Al Marsh led the salute to the Flag, Jerry Cufley gave the invocation and the Pair o' Docs (Al Marsh and Bob Maynard if you didn’t know) led us with their rendition of Little Brown Jug.

The Rotary Installation dinner is June 26, 2007, at the Willows Lodge with the social hour from 5:30 – 6:30 PM, dinner and ceremonies from 6:30PM to whenever it ends.  Daryl Eckland circulated the installation dinner sign up sheet to give everyone a “last” chance to sign up as numbers had to be provided to Willows Lodge.  Daryl requested that those who didn’t bring wine to the last two meeting should bring it to the installation dinner by 5:30 PM – we only have 12 bottles collected so far.
Remember there will be no morning Rotary meeting that day.

Larry Duffield needs a 2nd and 3rd family for Laura Topin our next exchange student who will arrive from France late August.  This could include Rotary members, Rotary families or friends.

Nikka’s reign is coming to an end.  This Saturday she will start a three-week trip with other exchange students, will attend the July 10 Rotary meeting and fly home.  Be sure to attend the July 10 to wish her a fond farewell.

Our scheduled speaker, Ambassadorial scholar Kristina Server, extended her apologies for being unable to attend because of illness and an U-haul van hitting her vehicle, rendering it inoperable.  She has been rescheduled for August 14.  Quick thinking next president-elect Chris drafted David Landau and Burke Barker to do spur-of-the moment Classification talks.  Both are entrepreneurs, Burke in construction (Empire Home Model) and David in restaurants and now catering (Landau’s Catering).  Burke has recently returned to Rotary and this is David’s third club, being sponsored by Steve Dolan and John Hughes.

Happy Birthday to Daryl Eckland (6/14).  A great year for him with his oldest son graduating from the U of W Dental School and his second son to be married 8/18.

On June 23, Jorge Gonzales will pedal it all over Sonoma/Santa Rosa wine country in Search of a Cure for Diabetes.  His inspiration resulted in several on the spot cash donations from the membership.  Good luck Jorge on your bike trip and we understand that you have exceeded your goal of $4,000. Additional donations, of course, would be appreciated, please contact Jorge.

Happy dollars from Jay Soloff whose daughter Leah Vail is an interviewer with the TV program E Entertainment and is having a ball; Susan Webster’s daughter turned “sweet” 16 and wants a car; Jon Bylin visited an English speaking Rotary Club in Taipei; and Evan McAllister reverting to his second childhood having purchased a new Harley Davidson motorcycle, insisting his wife made him do it.

The winning raffle ticket number was drawn by Jorge but he failed to select the white marble and a chance for almost $800. Two marbles remain, so the next draw has a 50-50% chance of winning. Everyone is encouraged to buy a massive number of raffle tickets at the July 3 meeting, and surely someone can buy more than the 56 purchased by Jorge which beat the prior week purchase of 32 tickets by Terry Jarvis.

Bill Gowin indicated that a golf outing for the Club has been scheduled for this summer at the Inglewood Golf Club.  Additional information on the event will be forthcoming, including a firm date.

Some informational messages from Chris Boland included:

·              Need to focus on procurement of items for the charity fundraising auction.  Consider items that one can’t buy retail but provide an exciting experience, such as getting a Seahawks player to come to your house to watch a football game.

·        Remember to bring your family to the Rotary Family Day at the Seattle Center, a festival of entertainment and service at Memorial Stadium, Wednesday noon, June 27.

Other items regarding the Wine and Shine Auction:

·        Susan Webster and John Hughes are establishing a blog for this year’s Wine and Shine event so that the latest information can be posted and members will be able to make and post comments.

·        Jay Soloff requested 2-3 Rotarians to call Woodinville Wineries for donations of wine.  Please contact Jay or Max.

·        Rorry Dunbar had procurement forms on all the tables and suggested that everyone get busy and get Items.

The next 5th Tuesday Event will be a family picnic on July 31.  Susan indicated sites being considered are Wilmot Park (last year’s site) and the Rotary Community Park.  Will set up at 5 PM and the party starts at 6 PM.  You will be hearing more on this event SO SAVE THE DATE.

2006 vintage of Reckonyard Gold pinot noir scholarship wine.

Hugo Briefs . . . Thanx to Jorge who stepped in for the traveling Snappy in photo coverage of the past meeting . . . a final work party at Rotary Community Park is scheduled for July 28 to put the finishing touches on the trail and path system . . . The Village Volunteers Action Club at UW Bothell will benefit from a dinner offer July 9 at the Canyon restaurants at Canyon Park and Mountlake Terrace. The club is raising money for an international safe drinking project in Africa. Our club is supporting the club's project and will hear from the executive director of Village Volunteers at our August 21 meeting. Here is a flyer about the 20 % donation the restaurants will make to the club from dinners on Monday, July 9. Supporters will need to print out and present the flyer.
