Town
Treasurer Steve Dolan explains to Ms. Jones that
proceeds from the offering of Reckonyard Gold pinot noir
from DeSoto Gardens of Grace Town Vineyards provide
funding for scholarships in Viticulture and Enology
programs at Washington State University and Walla Walla
Community College.

Ignacio
Rios had the distinction of not only being tapped by the
Grace Provisionals for a lifetime membership in Rotary,
but was humbled by loquacious remarks from the town's
self-appointed Mayor for Life. The mayor extolled
virtues that early-rising Woodinville Rotarians have
come to appreciate.

Grace's
Centennial Citizen of the Year Eveready Erv DeSmet
(right) did some bestowing of his own. He presented
Nikki Sugandh with the honor of International Citizen of
Grace in perpetuity. The mayor managed to horn into
another photo opp. Ms. Nikki will be required to
discover a sister city in India to which Grace
Provisionals can take tax deductible trips.

Never
mind that Marv admitted to getting sea sick even on
cruise ships, Heidi Workman and Joe Truglio outlined an
exciting 2008 cruise to Alaska to support the Workman
scholarship at University of Washington Bothell.

The
Pair 'o Docs had a few tunes to warble about the tax man
. . . and added a sentimental number of two. One
attendee was so in awe of their performance she began
scouting out an appropriate recording label to propose.

The
Jarvis shindig was a huge success.
It was well attended and a good time was had by
all. Fellow
Rotarian David Landau provided the catering.
His staff of Sky, Dawson, and the lovely Fiona,
did an excellent job, with perfect attention to every
detail.
The
upside down program was led off by T. Jarvis himself.
Catherine Jones was recognized as the official
towne Associate Viticulturalist.
She was recognized with terms like “highly
qualified”, “diligent”, “skilled”, and
beautiful, of course, but because Grace and Woodinville
have such high standards, it was required that she be
even better. So
she announced that she would be going back to school at
WSU for a Masters in Viticulture, or possibly even a
PHD. With
that commitment, Steve Dolan awarded her another $1500
scholarship, to assist in her educational efforts.
Ian
Gleadle was then recognized as the official towne
photographer. He will henceforth be required to provide a continuous stream
of perfect photos for all events.
He was assisted by his lovely wife, Linda.
Ignacio
(“Nacho”) Rios was named an Honorary Grace Rotarian
for his faithful attendance at all meetings and many
events.
Erv
DeSmet was anointed Centennial Citizen of Grace.
For this, it is rumored, he paid plenty. Obviously, the crowd expected he would renew this on an
annual basis.
Gus
T. Williger, sometimes known as Max Zellweger, got some
award associated with the towne grape harvest, but this
writer didn’t follow all that very well.
However, I am looking forward to meeting his
sister, Lus T. Williger.
Finally,
the crowning event:
Nikita Sugandh was presented with an Honorary
Grace Citizenship for life!, in perpetuity!
All she has to do is find a sister city in India
that will make travel for Grace officials a tax
deductible event, as they travel back and forth to
establish charitable events and activities.
Nikita has 6 more weeks, which include her trip
with other exchange students, before she heads home.
You can expect to see her at about three more
meetings.
President
Gary announced our theme for this year’s Wine &
Shine event will be “CELEBRATE LITERACY”.
Chris Boland and Greg Riggs will “increase the
fun factor” at our October 6 event.
Buy a table and you get to name your table theme.
It could be anything from Dr. Seuss to the
bookworm.
Joe
Truglio introduced Heidi Workman, Marv’s
daughter-in-law. She has arranged a special cruise event for Rotarians.
It is with R&D Cruises, on the Star Princess.
It is a 7 night cruise from August 24th
to the 31st, 2008.
The cruise goes to Alaska and will have stops at
exciting places like Victoria, Ketchikan, Juneau, and
Skagway. A
simple deposit of $100 between now and July 20th
will hold your spot.
20% of the trip price will go to a endowment
scholarship fund in the name of Marv Workman.
The regional manager, Rick Schweitzer, will be
coming to our meeting next week to give us all the
details.
Following
all that formal stuff, we were grandly entertained by
the Pair o’ Docs.
Bob Maynard and Al Marsh did a mighty fine job,
as usual. How
long before they start recording?
And
what about the house?
How many square feet is this thing?
No one seemed to know.
But, all agreed that it was certainly built on a
grand scale and had every attention to detail. It looked like it came straight from an early 1900s Cape Cod
address, where the rich and famous had an unlimited
supply of labor and material to build their homes.
One person said it looked like a showpiece from
Snohomish, built by a timber baron.
How many square feet is this thing?
Since it is so suitable for entertaining our
large group, most Rotarians expect it will be a routine
venue… Well,
maybe we better ask Terry and Cherry, but stand by for
the grand opening of the workshop/garage, scheduled for
June of 2008.
