20th Anniversary Charter Celebration - another night to shine!

Circle your calendar for March 27

Woodinville Rotary Club received the Rotary International charter on January 30, 197 with 24 of the original 33 charter members in attendance at a banquet at Bear Creek Country Club. We are inviting as many charter members as we can locate to join us for this 20th anniversary event at Chateau Ste. Michelle.

A gourmet dinner will be prepared by the winery's  executive chef. Cost per attendee is $75, chargeable to members' club account.

If you have contact information for the following charter members, please e-mail that information to committee member Susan Webster. Here's the names of those we need information for the invites:

Stephen Case, Sam Furgason, Jack Grady, Gene Graff, Merle Hill, David Hizer, Bob Knuckey, Max Pope, Joe Rees, Joe Voutour, Don Webber Jr. We have current addresses for the other 22.

In addition to celebrating Woodinville Rotary's 20th anniversary, the club will recognize the 30th anniversary of Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center and Chateau Ste. Michelle opening in Woodinville and the 50th anniversary of Molbak's. Leaders of those respective programs and businesses will be present.

Past Presidents not presently active with the club and charter members of our club will also be invited.

Wine Tasting for scholarships
, look for a sign up sheet at the Feb. 6 meeting for those planning to attend the wine tasting event March 13 at Monte Villa Farmhouse. A selection of five Rhone-blend reds will be featured. $200 per couple, $100 per person. Limited seating.

The eleven hearty pinot noir vines in the DeSoto Garden Block of Grace Town Vineyards were pruned Saturday with viticulturalist Gustav T. Williger and associate viticulturalist Catherine Hinken-Jones in command. They are looking forward to another bumper crop for the 2007 vintage. The 2005 vintage of Reckonyard Gold will be released March 13 to the holders of the 22 wine futures procured in Dec. of 2005.

The current issue of Woodinville Weekly has a nice article on our club election and anniversary plans. There's even a photo of our next leader complete with Rotary pin. Worth a Fine Waiver?

We're asking for some "reporters" to volunteer to contribute an article or item for the weekly News and Views section of the Newsletter. In advance, thanks to old-hands-at-this Alan Nelson, Susan Webster and Al Marsh for volunteering to help during February!

On to Coeur d'Alene chair Joe Truglio reports 10 members are registered for the April 20-22 district conference, including Gary and Donna Whitsell, Steve and Janet Dolan, Rick and Carol Pisani, Eric and Dottie Greenwood, Larry and Elna Duffield, John and Nan Hughes, Daryl and Stacie Eckland, Joe and Suzie Truglio, Jorge and Rosario Gonzalez and Terry and Cherry Jarvis.

Rotary Dollars at Work
With a $25,000 grant from Rotary International, and over $10,500 in other contributions, Northshore, Kirkland, Duvall,
Woodinville, and Redmond Rotary have partnered together to provide a variety of immunizations to poor and at-risk populations. Much credit goes to Tom Weathers (president-elect of Northshore Rotary Club) and Kae Peterson (Lake Forest Park Rotary Club), who worked long and hard to secure the funding. Kirkland Rotarian Steve Brown, CEO of Evergreen Health Care, and his staff were also very involved in developing the project.
Their cooperation with Evergreen Health Care will help 1,150 at-risk and low-income people. The grant will fund the following immunization effort in 2007:

    • Flu immunizations for 750 senior and high-risk adults

    • Pneumonia vaccinations & education for 250 seniors

    • TDapP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) immunizations to 100 low-income adolescents, new parents, and seniors

    • Pampolona Virus immunizations to 50 low-income young women (ages 13-22)

Rotarians from the five participating clubs will volunteer to assist in registration and activities related to immunizations days.
The clinics will be set up by Evergreen, and will occur at sites such as Redmond Food Bank, Kirkland Food Bank, Bothell Food Bank, Carnation Food Bank, Northshore Family Center, Trailer Park low-income housing in Bothell, Northshore Senior Center, Redmond Senior Center, Kirkland Senior Center, Woodinville Senior Center, Sno-Valley Senior Center (located in Carnation).
The project budget is for $37,578 (clubs contributing $10,100, Blane Grant contributing $5,000, local contributions of $2,478, and a Foundation SHARE Grant of $20,000).

Service Above Self Saturday

For those of you who will be out of town on March 10th and not able to participate in the  " service above self day" project, there is an opportunity to “help out” on the project earlier.

Here it is:    on Feb 25th , from 9am until 2pm , there will be a trail work party at Rotary Community Park . The work will be the same as on March 10th……inst all ing boards on the raised trail and spreading gravel on the trail.  You can work all day or less if you choose.  If you have a cordless drill at home, please bring it fully charged; it will help with laying the boards on the raised trail platforms.

If you are like Eric Greenwood and Jay Fiske who will be “out of town” or otherwise not able to participate on March 10th, please email me to confirm you will be at the Feb 25th trail work party.  I will be putting together a roster for the Feb 25th and March 10th dates.

Remember , between Feb 25th and March 10th, we need 100% club member participation !!
