Invitations to the big event have been sent out via snail and electronic mail. If you have not signed up, please contact Susan Webster and indicate a meal selection of either beef, salmon or vegetarian. We still need addresses for 9 charter members we hope to invite to this 20th anniversary event.
If you have contact information for the following charter members, please e-mail that information to committee member Susan Webster. Here's the names of those we need information for the invites: Stephen Case, Jack Grady, Merle Hill, David Hizer, Bob Knuckey, Max Pope, Joe Rees, Joe Voutour, Don Webber Jr. We have current addresses for the other 24. Past Presidents not presently active with the club and charter members of our club have all been invited. Look for sign-up sheets for the event again at next week's meeting. |

Briefs
. . . We're asking for some Newsletter "Rotary Reporters" to contribute an article or item for the weekly News and Views section of this Newsletter. In advance, thanks to old-hands-at-this Alan Nelson, Susan Webster, Snappy Jarvis and Al Marsh for volunteering to help during February! Snappy is being enlisted for the March 6 assignment and your editor learned only this past week that Larry C. Leonardson (LCL) served a sentence as Bulletin editor prior to the turn of this century! On to Coeur d'Alene chair Joe Truglio reports 11 members are registered for the April 20-22 district conference, including Gary and Donna Whitsell, Steve and Janet Dolan, Rick and Carol Pisani, Eric and Dottie Greenwood, Larry and Elna Duffield, John and Nan Hughes, Daryl and Stacie Eckland, Joe and Suzie Truglio, Jorge and Rosario Gonzalez and Terry and Cherry Jarvis.

Alan's
Angle Tuesday morning dawned overcast and damp, but a full complement of Rotarians braved the traffic for the meeting this week. I am coming to you in these pages for a second week in a row and you will have to ‘suffer’ with me for one more week after this one. On this St. Valentine’s Eve, Steve D. put all men ‘to shame’ by escorting his ‘Valentine’ to breakfast and Dr. Al leading us in There’s a Kind of Hush. Evan M. entertained all with an enjoyable classification talk and impressed everyone with the fact that he has lost almost 100 lbs. Well done Evan! Gary W. presided over many announcements and “goings on” for the coming months: v Rotary Volunteer Day is March 10th with a ‘make-up’ day on February 25th. v The Friends of Boy Scouts Breakfast is March 23rd @ Bear Creek Country Club v A Wine Tasting @ Monte Villa Farmhouse (an ‘educational’ experience, according to Gustav Z.) is set for March 13. Rhone blends, followed by dinner. v Charter Night @ Chateau St. Michelle is March 27th. v The district conference in Coeur d’ Alene, ID is 4/20 – 4/22. Contact Giuseppe (Joe T) for further information. Natalie Oswald and Fran Walster from the Maltby Food Bank were introduced by Bill Schink. Gary W. presented Fran and Natalie with a check for $3,000 in our continuing support of the wonderful work that they do for the community. Fran gave a brief update on the Maltby Food Bank and the goals for the coming year for their operation. Gary W. presided over one of his favorite activities; the induction of new members. Burke Barker and Jerry Cufley were introduced and given their “Red Badges of Courage”. Welcome Jerry and welcome back, Burke! Hugo introduced our speaker for the morning: George Olson is the executive director of the Listen and Talk program. George started his program with a short film about his program and proceeded to amaze everyone, including this writer on the amazing work his program is doing to prepare young children with hearing loss for the mainstream classroom. His program concentrates on early intervention and works intensely, so that by the age of kindergarten, no special program is needed. As a father of a daughter who is taking American Sign Language currently and immerses herself in the hearing impaired community, I applaud the work that George and Listen and Talk are doing. Thanks to all for listening and I’ll see everyone next Tuesday and in these pages next week! --- Alan Nelson, Newsletter reporter |
