GRACE
– October 2007 - By a 5-0 vote, Grace’s Centennial Citizen of the Year
Erv DeSmet has been elected “grand exalted appreciator” of the
fledgling Greater Grace Wine Appreciation Society (GGWAS). The
vote was unanimous.
When
informed of the historic event, Mayor-for-Life Terry Jarvis, in a
rare moment of lucidity exclaimed, “the 5-0 vote definitely appeared to be unanimous”.
Jarvis
added, “it is with great pleasure that I have learned that
Erv’s duties on behalf of our township will not conclude at the
end of this month when his coveted ‘rent-a-citizenship’
expires.”
Centennial
Erv paid a hefty sum to become Grace's Citizen of the Year since
Wine'n Shine of 2006.
The
identity of those voting was not disclosed.
Appearing
overwhelmed--but not speechless--by the electoral outcome, G.E.A-select
DeSmet said he looks forward to his new role, regardless of its
cost. He has already
held a planning meeting to lay groundwork for the first GGWAS
event.
DeSmet
said his first project will be to organize the Wines of Grace
cheerleading team in anticipation of events in February and April
next year. |
