Seven
graduating seniors at Woodinville High School were among the 67
students honored May 19th at a recognition breakfast marking
the silver anniversary of the Northshore Scholarship Foundation.
The Foundation is operated by Woodinville and Northshore Rotary
clubs and the Kiwanis Club of Northshore. The recipients will receive a
total of $158,075 in scholarship funding during the event held at
the Northshore Senior Center in Bothell.
Three 2009 Woodinville graduates will receive $6,000 tuition
grants from Woodinville Rotary Club. Named the “Make a Difference”
scholarship, they are directed toward high school graduates who would
benefit from a sizeable, renewable grant to help cover a majority share
of the fast-rising tuition costs at the state’s public and private
colleges.
Recipient of the Carlene and Jim Gaudette grant given in
recognition of their support of the club’s annual charitable giving
program is Jaclyn Smith who plans to attend Central Washington University
to become a math teacher. Another will recognize Sandra
Albright and Tana Baumler of the Maltby Café, and be awarded to Sarah
Lanter who will attend Seattle Pacific University and work toward a
career in medicine or science.
The third “Difference” grant is the Rotary Service Above Self
Scholarship and is awarded to Lindsey Guay who will attend Seattle
University with plans to pursue a career in either law or criminal
justice.
Other Rotary scholarships and their recipients include: Peg
Phillips Theater Arts, Sarah Elliott; Rotary Leadership, Alex Honjiyo;
Rotary Academic, Tai Heinzerling; and the Pride Family Memorial, Maren
Talcott. The Pride scholarship is renewable for three additional years.
In addition, Woodinville Rotary provides two $2,000 scholarships
at Cascadia Community College to Olive Grace Oliveros (WHS '07)and
Shelly Ewell (Inglemoor '09) and the $2,000 Marv Workman renewable
business scholarship at University of Washington Bothell to Andrew
Teachout (WHS '07).
In support of the Woodinville wine industry, the club offers two
$2,000 enology and viticulture scholarships at Walla Walla Community
College and a $3000 grant at Washington State University. The WSU scholarship renewal
was announced at the club’s Earth Day celebration and was awarded to
Catherine Jones, an Inglemoor graduate enrolled in graduate work in
viticulture.
An annual masters in business scholarship at University of
Washington Bothell will be awarded by the club in August in memory of
past president and charter member Jerry Wilmot . |
